Summary
This vacancy is being filled via the Direct-Hire Authority (DHA) for an Economist (Research) position with the U.S. Census Bureau.
This Job Opportunity Announcement may be used to fill other Economist (Research), 0110-12/13, FPL GS-13 positions within the Census Bureau in the same geographical location with the same qualifications and specialized experience.

This is an open continuous announcement. The initial cutoff date for referral is 12/25/24. After this date, the cut off dates are as follows: 1/24/25, 2/23/25, and 3/11/25.
Qualifications
BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:
Degree: economics, that included at least 21 semester hours in economics and 3 semester hours in statistics, accounting, or calculus.
OR
Combination of education and experience: courses equivalent to a major in economics, as shown in A above, plus appropriate experience or additional education.

AND
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: GS-12
Specialized Experience: For the GS-12, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-11 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Using statistical software packages to analyze economic data; providing analysis regarding Research Plan and Findings and/or providing written analysis to communicate economic findings.
OR
Education: Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree in Directly Related field.
GS-13 Minimum Qualifications
Specialized Experience: For the GS-13, you must have one year of experience at a level of difficulty and responsibility equivalent to the GS-12 in the Federal service. Experience for this position includes: Using statistical software packages to analyze economic data, determining Research Plan and Goals, providing analysis regarding Research Plan and Findings; providing written analysis to communicate economic findings, presenting and/or publishing research findings.
Education cannot be substituted for experience at this grade level.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer.
Additional information
If hired for this position with the Census Bureau, at its headquarters office located in Suitland, Maryland, you will be expected to temporarily telework to maximum extent while the headquarters building is being renovated. Once renovations are completed for your area, you will be notified when to return to the office. At that time, you will be expected to work from your duty station, and you may be eligible to telework, up to 8 days a pay period depending on your respective work schedule, with approval from your supervisor.
