Summary About the Position: At the full performance level this position assists planning, design, and construction engineers by acquiring, developing, and converting various engineering and technical data and measurements into forms useable by the engineers, through use of computer aided Design and Drafting (CADD) techniques. May be selected at any grade with promotion potential to GS-11 Learn more about this agency Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment to this position is subject to a one-year probationary period unless the appointee has previously met the requirements as described in 5 CFR Part 315. Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the education and/or specialized experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. GS-04: Six months General experience including (1) any type of work which demonstrates the ability to perform the work of the position; or (2) experience that provided knowledge in performing drafting assignments AND six months of specialized experience which includes making simple text edits on drawing sheets from red-line marks under closer than normal supervision. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-03). OR Education: Two years of education above the high school level that included at least 12 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education by 60. Add the two percentages. GS-05: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: creating drawings; developing civil and/or structural, topographical features of locks, dams, or other similar infrastructure; knowledge and training in utilizing software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD to create models, site plans, cross sections, elevations and details. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-04). OR Education: Four-year course of study leading to a bachelor's degree (a) with major study in an appropriate field of engineering, construction, or industrial technology; OR (b) that included at least 24 semester hours in any combination of courses such as engineering, engineering or industrial technology, construction, physics, drafting, surveying, physical science, or mathematics. OR Combination of Education and Experience: A combination of education and experience may be used to qualify for this position as long as the computed percentage of the requirements is at least 100%. To compute the percentage of the requirements, divide your total months of experience by 12. Then divide your semester hours of education beyond two years (total semester hours minus 60) by 60. Add the two percentages. GS-06: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: executing drawings; developing civil and/or structural, topographical features of locks, dams, or other similar infrastructure; knowledge in utilizing software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD to create models, site plans, cross sections, elevations and details. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-05). GS-07: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: executing and reviewing drawings; developing civil and/or structural, topographical features of locks, dams, or other similar infrastructure; proficient knowledge in utilizing software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD to create models, site plans, cross sections, elevations and details. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-06). GS-08: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: executing and reviewing drawings; developing civil and/or structural, topographical features of locks, dams, or other similar infrastructure; experience in utilizing software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD to create models, site plans, cross sections, elevations and details. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-07). GS-09: Specialized Experience: One year of specialized experience which includes: executing and reviewing complex and unusual drawings; developing civil and/or structural, topographical features of locks, dams, or other similar infrastructure; expert experience in utilizing software such as MicroStation and AutoCAD to create models, site plans, cross sections, elevations and details. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level position in the federal service (GS-09). Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, at the GS-06 through the GS-09 grade levels, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Education FOREIGN EDUCATION: If you are using education completed in foreign colleges or universities to meet the qualification requirements, you must show the education credentials have been evaluated by a private organization that specializes in interpretation of foreign education programs and such education has been deemed equivalent to that gained in an accredited U.S. education program; or full credit has been given for the courses at a U.S. accredited college or university.
