3D Technical Animator

We are searching for a 3D Technical Animator to work with the onsite team at Snap Inc! 

We’re looking for someone who is an expert in producing animation and rigs for 3D characters and props to be used in Snap Inc products and games. Working closely with the Content team, you’ll partner with technical animators, technical artists, engineers, 3D artists, and VFX artists to deliver new assets and experiences from initial concepts to final implementation. This is a full-time role.

What you'll do:

Animation 

• Animation of 3D Characters and props in Autodesk Maya performed in accordance with time limits based on storyboards, draft cut and instructions of project lead

Making own decisions on timing and temper of animation 

Rigging

• Rig a wide ranges of props and character rigs using Autodesk Maya

• Painting of skin weights for deformation

• Collaborate with 3D artists, technical animators, VFX artists, technical artists and engineers to ensure assets meet technical needs

• Help troubleshoot and QA animation and technical issues for assets to move through the pipeline

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities: 

• Proficiency in Maya

• Strong portfolio showcasing 3D character animation and rigging

• Creativity, precision, and an eye for detail

• Ability to solve technical problems as related to animation and character setup

• Ability to complete tasks within production schedules and deadlines in an organized manner

• Ability to learn and adapt to new workflows and methods

Minimum Qualifications:

• 3+ years of experience as technical animator or similar role

• Bachelor's Degree in 3D Animation or related experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Proficiency in Python and JavaScript

• Ability to be open and responsive to guidance and reviews from both creative and technical supervisor(s)

• Has a passion for creating new products and exploring new ideas beneficial to the team and product

• A proactive team member eager to learn, grow and arise to challenges with a focused and determined approach

• Bonus Points (not required, but nice to have):

  • Game Animation and Rigging Experience

  • Experience creating or building animation tools. i.e. MG Picker, MG Tools (or similar)

  • Experience in post-production motion capture and performance capture

  • Experience in major game engines like Unity or Unreal Engine

  • Strong knowledge of Lens Studio, PlayCanvas or similar proprietary engines
