About the Position: Serve as a Public Safety Telecommunicator for dispatching Fire, Emergency Medical Service (EMS), and Law Enforcement (LE) responders, monitoring alarms and activating Mass Notification Systems in Army Garrison Public Safety Answering Points (PSAPs) / 911 Centers. Learn more about this agency Requirements Conditions of Employment Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation. Position is subject to shift work where the incumbent is required to work an alternate, rotating work schedule, which requires an uncommon tour of duty (including nights, weekends and holidays). Incumbent is required to work (mission essential) regardless of weather conditions or base closure and to report to the duty station at the regularly scheduled time. Incumbent may be required to wear a uniform. Incumbent must be a qualified typist. (40 wpm). Incumbent must pass a pre-employment; fingerprint based criminal history investigation for any location that accesses Criminal Justice Information Systems. The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain a valid state driver’s license. The incumbent is required to obtain and maintain certification in Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR). Emergency Medical Dispatch based on the program standards at the location assigned. Incumbent must complete the Department of Defense Telecommunicator I and II or equivalent based on the program standards at the location assigned. Incumbent must complete State National Crime Information Center (NCIC) certification based on assigned location. Incumbent must complete the National Incident Management System (NIMS) IS 100,300, 700, 800, and 907 courses. See "Additional Information" for additional Conditions of Employment. Qualifications Who May Apply: US Citizens In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Additional information about transcripts is in this document. SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE: One year of specialized experience which includes answering emergency 911 calls; dispatching appropriate equipment in emergency situations; performing intervention with distraught emergency callers; and/or maintaining reports and retrieving information. This definition of specialized experience is typical of work performed at the next lower grade/level in the federal service (GS-06). Proficiency Required:This position requires a qualified typist. A qualified typist can type 40 words per minute based on a 5 minute sample with three or fewer errors. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Customer Service (Clerical/Technical) Information Technology Application Manages and Organizes Information Oral Communication Education Some federal jobs allow you to substitute your education for the required experience in order to qualify. For this job, you must meet the qualification requirement using experience alone--no substitution of education for experience is permitted. Additional information Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Registration. You will be required to provide proof of U.S. Citizenship. One year trial/probationary period may be required. Direct Deposit of Pay is required. CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT (CONTINUED): Within 16 weeks from the date of employment, the incumbent will be required to demonstrate reasonable proficiency at locally established training guidelines on the use of E911, CAD, Land Mobile Radio (LMR), and station alerting software and equipment. Continuous current certification is a condition of employment. The incumbent is responsible for attaining continuing dispatch education (CDE) requirements through in-service training that is offered locally and pass in accordance with predetermined course requirements.
