Summary Employee will be assigned to the, VA Hospital, Tampa, FL, as an Infection Preventionist supervision of the Chief, Infection Prevention & Control, Office of the Chief of Staff. Qualifications All applicants must meet the Basic Education Requirement: Successful completion of a bachelor's degree (or higher) from an accredited college or university in a major study in an academic field related to the medical field, health sciences or allied sciences appropriate to the work of this Infection Preventionist (Health Science Specialist) position. Display copies of degrees or course listings do not provide the information needed. ~AND~ In addition to meeting the Basic Education Requirement, all applicants must meet one of the following minimum qualifications: Specialized Experience for GS-11: One (1) full year of specialized experience equivalent to the next lower grade level (GS-9) in the Federal service that has given you the particular knowledge, skills and abilities required to successfully perform the duties of this position. Specialized experience includes, providing guidance in various fields of infection control with emphasis on multi-drug resistant organism prevention; investigating outbreaks of infection when they occur; applying knowledge of clinical microbiology, epidemiology, infectious diseases, and patient care practices to assist with developing, implementing and evaluating an infection prevention and control program; analyzes trends and risk factors; utilizing knowledge and skills to the design and implementation of studies directed toward evaluation and problem solving; Assists in the development, evaluation and delivery of educational programs or tools related to infection prevention, control and epidemiology. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. ~OR~ Education: Successfully completed three (3) years of progressively higher-level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. degree or equivalent doctoral degree in a field related to the work that provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position. Education cannot be credited without documentation. ~OR~ Combination: Equivalent combinations of successfully completed graduate-level education (beyond the second year) and specialized experience, as described above, which meet the total experience requirements for this grade level. The education portion must have provided the knowledge, skills, and abilities necessary to do the work of this position (as described above). IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Additional information Receiving Service Credit for Earning Annual (Vacation) Leave: Federal Employees earn annual leave at a rate (4, 6 or 8 hours per pay period) which is based on the number of years they have served as a Federal employee. Selected applicants may qualify for credit toward annual leave accrual, based on prior work experience or military service experience. This credited service can be used in determining the rate at which they earn annual leave. Such credit must be requested and approved prior to the appointment date and is not guaranteed.
