Summary About the Position: This position is located at Maxwell Air Force Base, Alabama. DoDEA Facilties Division. Learn more about this agency Requirements Conditions of Employment Male applicants born after December 31, 1959, must complete a Pre-Employment Certification Statement for Selective Service Requirement. Proof of U.S. Citizenship required. Direct deposit of pay is required. One year trial or probationary period may be required. Appointment subject to a suitability/fitness determination, as determined by a background investigation. One year supervisory probation period may be required. This position requires a Tier 1 (T1) investigation with Childcare Checks since its duties require interaction with children and youth under the age of eighteen (18) years of age. A pre-placement medical examination is required. Must be able to possess a Chloro-Fluorocarbon (CFC) certificate for working with refrigerants Work may include assignment to first or second shift Call-back and emergency overtime may be required of this position. Must be able to operate a government vehicle within 45 days of the date of hire. Qualifications Who May Apply: U.S. Citizens Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. There is no specific length of training or experience required. However, you must be able to demonstrate, through experience shown in your written application materials that you possess the sufficient knowledge, skills, and abilities to successfully perform the work of this position without more than normal supervision. Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Maintenance Mechanic Supervisor II without more than normal supervision. Reviewing work orders; distributing work to others; providing work status updates and maintaining air conditioning, heating/boiler, plumbing and/or electrical equipment - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating. You will be evaluated on the basis of your level of competency in the following areas: Ability to Interpret Instructions, Specification, etc. (includes blueprint reading) Ability To Lead or Supervise Ability To Use and Maintain Tools and Equipment Knowledge of Equipment Assembly, Installation, Repair, etc. Knowledge of Materials Technical Practices (theoretical, precise, artistic) Physical Effort: Work requires frequent bending, standing, stooping, and reaching. Work may be performed from ladders or scaffolding and in cramped and uncomfortable positions. Regularly required to lift and carry parts and equipment weighing up to 50 pounds. Lifting equipment is available for heavy loads. Working Conditions: Works inside and outside in all types of weather. Is exposed to the possibility of electrical shock, broken bones, bums, cuts, and bruises and to injury from inhaling refrigerants. Subject to falls from ladders and scaffolding and to injury from accidents while operating a motor vehicle. This position is obligated. An obligated position is one to which an employee has statutory restoration rights based on active military service, compensable injury or disability when fully recovered, return rights based on having served an overseas tour(s), and may also cover employees who have been on extended leave without pay under certain circumstances. During the obligation period, the position may be filled on a temporary or permanent basis. The selected employee is required to sign an agreement acknowledging that (s)he is aware of the obligation and accepts the fact that (s)he may be displaced under reduction in force procedures at a later time. This position is a TERM position. It is temporary and may be extended up to 6 years with a maximum of 8 years with approval. Term appointments may be extended up to a maximum of eight years. This position may be converted to permanent career or career-conditional appointment without further competition as long as all requirements are met. To be eligible for conversion, employee must complete at least 2 years of current continuous service under a term appointment in the competitive service AND employee must have a current performance rating under such term appointment of at least fully successful or equivalent. Additional information Selection is subject to restrictions resulting from Department of Defense referral system for displaced employees. Salary is based on the local prevailing rate.
