  • This position may require travel from normal duty station to CONUS and OCONUS and may include remote or isolated sites. You must be able to travel on military and commercial aircraft for extended periods of time.
  • You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination.
  • This position is considered Key/Emergency-Essential. You will be required to provide immediate and continuing support to ensure the success of combat operations or the availability of combat-essential systems.
  • You will be required to obtain and maintain a U.S. Passport.
  • You will be required to perform occasional sea duty.

Qualifications

Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the next lower grade level, (GS-12), in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: Performing technical engineering duties (e.g. assembly, testing, data documentation, troubleshooting, equipment repair) and evaluating project requirements related to combat systems to provide technical guidance and resolve issues to ensure mission readiness.

Additional information

You will serve as a Combat Systems Alignment Lead Engineering Technician in Code 287 of the Engineering Department of SOUTHWEST REGIONAL MAINTENANCE CENTER.

You'll serve as a regional technical authority and Subject Matter Expert providing direct support for complex and extensive equipment on a variety of U.S. Navy, Military Sealift Command and U.S. Coast Guard platforms covered within SWRMC's Area of Responsibility and other locations as assigned.


This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program.

This position requires rotating shift work.

This position requires the ability to work onboard ships. Approximately 30% of the work is performed in an office setting. Work is normally required aboard U.S. and foreign Naval platforms at berths, at anchor or buoys within the harbor. On numerous occasions and with short notice, there will be requirements to perform temporary additional duty at sea on naval ships and/or at naval or private shipyards located throughout the world (including combat zones) utilizing government as well as commercial aircraft. Flights are utilized for transfer to/from ships at sea. High line transfer from ship to ship may be required.

This position requires the ability to climb ladders and scaffolding. The shipboard investigation phase of a task involves considerable walking, climbing up vertical ladders, bending and crawling in and around the systems/equipment with marginal accessibility being a frequent problem.

This position requires exposure to high noise levels.. Work involves frequent on-site inspections, which expose incumbent to shipboard conditions such as hazardous electrical voltages, explosive, flammable or incendiary materials, entering enclosed spaces 6 below the ship's water line and exposure to noise and heat in shipboard combat systems/engineering spaces.

You must be able to lift and/or carry loads/items up to 50 pounds in weight.
