Summary This position is located within the Research and Development Service at the G. V. Montgomery VA Medical Center in Jackson Mississippi. The purpose of this position is to perform a variety of specialized and complex procedures in support of research protocols to which assigned and provide administrative oversight of the Research and Development Committee. To be creditable, this experience must have been equivalent to at least the GS-8 grade level in the Federal Service. Qualifying specialized experience include research activity or control program work; nursery work that required the growing and maintenance of plants in a controlled environment; work comparable to that with a large dairy farm where production records, animal environment, and sanitary conditions were kept in accordance with modern dairy practice; preparing tissue and specimen samples; maintaining laboratory supplies and equipment; and maintaining laboratory records. At this level applicants must possess experience in laboratory work dealing with animal model, record keeping, husbandry and institutional compliance requirements. Applicants should have knowledge of technical methods and procedures in a biomedical research laboratory to provided technical and administrative support to research staff. NOTE: Applicants wishing to receive credit for such experience must clearly indicate the nature of their duties and responsibilities in each position and the number of hours a week spent in such employment. ~OR~ Education: Successfully completed a master's degree or two (2) full years of graduate education leading to such a degree in a field of study directly related to the work of this position. Education cannot be credited without documentation. ~OR~ Combination: Combinations of successfully completed graduate education (beyond the first year) and specialized experience as described above to meet the total qualification requirements for this grade level. You will be rated on the following Competencies as part of the assessment questionnaire for this position: Organizational Awareness Technical Competence Technical Credibility Technical Documentation IMPORTANT: A full year of work is considered to be 35-40 hours of work per week. All experience listed on your resume must include the month and year start/end dates. Part-time experience will be credited on the basis of time actually spent in appropriate activities. Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Physical Requirements: The work requires some physical exertion, such as regular and recurring walking, bending, and lifting/carrying objects up to 30 lbs. Agility and dexterity to operate a variety of standard biomedical laboratory equipment including microscopes, centrifuges, and pipettes required.
