Males born after 12-31-59 must be registered for Selective Service. This is a bargaining unit position. You will be required to obtain and maintain a current valid United States driver’s license. You will be required to wear personal protective equipment such as helmets, gloves, coveralls, glasses, goggles, respirators and safety shoes continuously for the duration of the work shift. You will be required to obtain and maintain an interim and/or final security clearance prior to entrance on duty. Failure to obtain and maintain the required level of clearance may result in the withdrawal of a job offer or removal. Successful completion of a pre-employment drug test (including marijuana) is required. A tentative offer of employment will be rescinded if you fail to report to the drug test appointment or fail the test. You will be subject to random testing. You will be required to successfully complete a pre-appointment physical examination. Qualifications GS-07: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-06 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Assisting in the technical inspection in areas and facilities with special hazards; 2) Inspecting and testing a variety of fire extinguishing and reporting systems with some guidance; and 3) Preparing written inspection reports and violations notices for review. GS-08: Your resume must also demonstrate at least one year of specialized experience at or equivalent to the GS-07 grade level or pay band in the Federal service or equivalent experience in the private or public sector. Specialized experience must demonstrate the following: 1) Interpreting and facilitating an effective and comprehensive formal fire prevention services program, through inspections, training, contact with officials and enforcement of fire regulations; 2) Planning directing and facilitating all functional aspects of fixed facility inspections; and 3) Teaching home prevention and emergency procedures. CERTIFICATION REQUIREMENTS (GS-08): For the GS-08 the incumbent must possess the following certifications: Fire Inspector I and II; Fire Instructor I; Public Fire and Life Safety Educator; and HAZMAT Awareness. These certifications must have been awarded by DoD, IFSAC or ProBoard to meet the requirement. (NOTE: You must attach copies of all certifications, or you will be rated ineligible.) Education This job does not have an education qualification requirement. Additional information This announcement uses the Defense Industrial Base, Major Range and Test Facilities direct hire authority to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to certain positions in the competitive service. A 40 hour work week is typical for this position. This position is subject to work an uncommon tour, including nights, weekends, and holidays to meet mission requirements. Overtime or night differential pay and/or unusual duty hours may be required. WORK ENVIRONMENT: The work environment involves frequent exposure during inspections, investigations, and surveys to a variety of machine and equipment operations, hazardous materials, high noise levels, smoke and temperature extremes. Protective clothing and equipment is necessary in some situations. (Personnel involved in fire investigation must maintain a respirator qualification card). PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Work requires frequent on-site inspections or surveys necessitating prolonged standing, walking, bending, climbing, crouching, reaching, lifting, and the ability to function in enclosed or small spaces to initiate inspections and investigations. On construction sites, stairs, aisles, or other forms of walkways are often under construction, some physical coordination and balance is necessary. This position is covered by the Department of Defense Priority Placement Program. Several vacancies may be filled.
