Summary
This is a Direct Hire Authority (DHA) solicitation utilizing the DHA for Certain Personnel of the DoD Workforce to recruit and appoint qualified candidates to positions in the competitive service.
About the Position: As a Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic, you will be responsible for the maintenance, overhaul, and repair of various types of cranes, trucks, gas-and diesel-powered tractors, draglines, compressors, and marine engines.

Appointment may be subject to a suitability or fitness determination, as determined by a completed background investigation.
This position requires the completion of a pre-employment Physical Examination and an annual examination thereafter to ensure the continued, required level of physical health and ability or fitness to perform the duties of the position.
This position is subject to a pre-employment screening, and random testing thereafter, to include testing based on reasonable suspicion and testing due to direct involvement with an on-duty accident.
At the time of hire the Incumbent is required to have and maintain a valid Class A drivers license with Air Brake Endorsement. (Note: A copy of Commercial Driver's License will need to be uploaded with application)
This position requires temporary duty (TDY) travel up to 50% of the time.
Employee is required to observe established safe working procedures. Appropriate protective clothing and/or equipment is provided to minimize or eliminate hazardous conditions, and its use is mandatory.
This position has a requirement to lift up to 50 lbs. in the regular performance of duties.

In order to qualify, you must meet the experience requirements described below. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). Minimum Qualifications (Screen Out Element): Ability to do the work of a(n) Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic without more than normal supervision. Heavy Mobile Equipment Mechanic duties include: performing mechanical maintenance, overhaul, and repair of a variety of launches, towboats, general servicing of engineering, floating plants, lock and dam equipment, and automotive equipment as well as other miscellaneous items of mechanical equipment; and using a variety of electronic test equipment to trouble shoot special problems. - Failure to meet this Screen Out Element will result in an ineligible rating
Physical Effort: The employee works in tiring or uncomfortable positions for long periods. The work requires frequent bending, reaching, stretching, climbing, and crouching. The employee frequently lifts and carries items weighing up to 50 pounds or puts forth similar strenuous effort while standing, lying, or sitting. The employee often lifts and moves heavier items with the assistance of others or lifting devices.
Working Conditions: Work is performed both inside and outside. Inside work is in a well-lighted, heated, and vented garage building. Outside work may be performed adjacent to the garage building or in the field. Field assignments involve exposure to temperature extremes common to the normal construction season, and to generally unfavorable working conditions in as much as most heavy equipment repair in the field is in connection with ditching, levee building, etc. The nature of the work is dirty, greasy, and noisy. The use of hand tools in cramped areas and while in awkward body positions (bending, prone, or reaching) subjects the worker to possible cuts and bruises to hands and arms. There is limited exposure to drowning from falls over the side of boats or from accidents while underway.
