Supervisory Recreation Specialist

Summary This position will be assigned to the JBSA Lackland Arnold Hall Community Center. This is a Regular - Full Time category position with guaranteed 35 hours per week and may work up to 40 hours per week. Work schedule varies based on facility needs and includes weekends and/or holidays. Employees appointed to regular category positions are eligible for benefits. This position requires shift work to provide coverage on evenings, weekends, holidays, and/or special occasions. Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community; student; social). You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience. Your resume must clearly describe your relevant experience; if the position allows for qualifying based on education, your transcripts will be required as part of your application. Qualifying Experience: Three years progressively responsible administrative, professional, technical, or other work which has provided general knowledge of management principles and practices demonstrating the ability to carry out continuing projects or programs. In addition, applicant must have 2 1/2 years specialized experience that demonstrates the ability to apply the principles of one or more specialty areas of recreation and leisure. Experience which demonstrated the ability to identify significant factors, gather pertinent data, and recognize solutions, plan and organize work, and communicate effectively orally and in writing. Work requires physical exertion and applicant must be able to lift 15-30 lbs. A Bachelors Degree in Recreation may be substituted for three years basic experience. Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities (KSA's): Your qualifications will be evaluated on the basis of your level of knowledge, skills, abilities and/or competencies in the following areas: 1. Knowledge of basic budget preparation as it applies to operating and capital expenditure budgets. 2. Skilled in the use of automation software and related equipment. 3. Knowledge of programming and hospitality. 4. This position does allow for education substitution. A Bachelors Degree in Recreation may be substituted for three years basic experience. You must show proof the education credentials have been deemed to be at least equivalent to that gained in conventional U.S. education program.
