Application Development Scientist

Kytopen is streamlining cell engineering for use in next-generation cell therapies. We enable transformative therapies with our patent-pending continuous Flowfect® non-viral transfection platform. We are looking for an Application Development Scientist who will lead our efforts to develop industry leading cell therapy applications by working in coordination with our R&D and commercial teams to deliver on our applications development roadmap. The ideal candidate will be a detail oriented, independent individual possessing strong analytical and communication skills with a degree in biological engineering, chemical engineering, immunology, or a related field, with at least 6 years of industry experience developing cell therapies or supporting technologies. 

Responsibilities and Duties (What we need) 

• Develop and optimize scientific applications or methods for our Flowfect technology 

• Conduct experiments and analyze data to support product development and characterization 

• Create technical protocols and scientific reports 

• Prepare and follow standard operating procedures, batch records and other process documentation 

• Work with external collaborators to define project workplans, align on deliverables and milestones, and technology transfer. 

• Serve as subject matter expert in internal and external scientific efforts utilizing the Flowfect® technology

• Troubleshoot technical issues and provide solutions, collaboration with the field applications team to assist in the development of leading applications, utilizing VoC developed within the sales process 

• Generate high-quality experimental reports for internal and external presentation and review 

Requirements (About you) 

What: 

• Advanced degree (M.S. or Ph.D.) in biological engineering, chemical engineering, immunology, or a related field 

• At least 6 years of industry experience with a biotech, diagnostic, pharmaceutical company (at least 4 years with a Ph.D.), prior cell and gene therapy experience preferred. 

• Experience working in a regulated environment and building products according to Industry Standards 

• Experience working with human HSC and/or immune cell biology, genetic manipulation of primary cell types, and viral and non-viral biomolecule delivery. 

• Experience managing or supervising junior employees 

• Experience in standard processing techniques including multi-parameter flow cytometry, molecular biology, immunological assays, and cell culture 

• Understanding of gene editing technologies (e.g. CRISPR, TALENs), in emerging cell therapy technologies 

• Experience with design of experiments tools such as JMP and practical knowledge of statistical analysis 

• Strong organizational, analytical, problem-solving, root-cause-analysis, and trouble-shooting skills 

• Strong written and verbal communication skills
