Job Summary:
An identity engineer at Markel has a range of responsibilities to secure the enterprise environment. The primary responsibility is to serve as a technical resource for the Identity and Access Management (IAM) program and is responsible for the development and management of technologies supporting the authentication, authorization, and governance of Markel assets. The supported processes and services are part of the Markel compliance program and support on-going audit and regulatory efforts.

This role will provide operational support to access control activities as well as assist other members of the team as they act as a technical resources for policy development, regulatory and industry requirements, risk assessments, penetration tests, enterprise projects and other Markel initiatives.

Job Description
  • Integrate IAM systems with in-house applications, third party applications and SaaS applications for provisioning, identity authentication, and developing connectors between IAM tools and system resources.
  • Work across functions to improve IAM solutions to enhance compliance requirements and best practices.
  • Lead application integration efforts with Global Security Services (GSS) IAM tools and processes.
  • Support technical integration needs (design, development, implement) that facilitate connectivity between Single Sign On (SSO), directory, and provisioning tools.
  • Develop and deploy solutions to ensure that authentication services are performing according to specifications, meet defined procedures, and comply with applicable information security policies and requirements.
  • Integrate applications and third-party products into internal services, support operations, and upgrade implemented systems.
  • Partner with internal teams to define and implement solutions that improve security, processes and end user experiences.
  • Assist in the development of security policies, standards, and procedures.
  • Assist in the evaluation of new and emerging security products and technologies.
  • Maintain an ongoing understanding of current and emerging security threats to mitigate threats where possible.
  • Serve as a technical resource for other departments within the GSS division.
  • Effectively communicate complex security problems and recommended solutions to an audience with varying levels of security and technical knowledge.
  • Ensure that technical aspects of the service are properly documented.
  • Other duties as necessary, including but not limited to: incident response, change management, etc.

Education
  • Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Information Technology; or 1 year related work experience/certification in cyber security.; or 1- 3 years experience/certification in Information Technology.

Certification

Certifications that are a plus:
  • Discipline specific certifications - CISSP, CCSK, ITIL, etc.

Work Experience/Skill Set
  • Must be able to work East Coast hours.
  • Experience with one or more IAM products, including directories, multi-factor authentication, account provisioning, and single-sign-on tools and technologies.
  • Experience with Cloud-based systems and deploying IAM to Software as a Service solutions
  • Experience with designing and deploying IAM process workflows.
  • Knowledge of authentication protocols, including SSL/TLS, HTTP, SAML, Kerberos, S/MIME, SCIM, and oAuth.
  • Understanding of directory services (AD and LDAP) and Windows based authentication (Kerberos and NTLM).
  • Understanding of Radius and TACACS.
  • Experience with certificates and certificate authorities.
  • Experience with web services to include RESTful and SOAP API's.
  • Experience with ITSM tools - ServiceNow, JIRA, etc.
  • Experience with Virtualization technologies and migrations - VMWare, Hyper-V, KVM, etc.
  • Critical thinking.
  • Attention to detail.
  • Strong Microsoft Office knowledge.
  • Good communication, organization, documentation and presentation skills.


Please note:Markel has a phased approach for re-entry into our buildings that is designed to balance the ongoing health, safety, and well-being of our employees with operational considerations and regulatory/ governmental requirements and recommendations. Effective 10/1/21 we have implemented a hybrid return to work strategy that allows for three days in the office every week.

Work location is flexible if approved by the Company, except that position may not be performed in Colorado.
