Nodle connects the physical world to Web3 by using smartphones as edge nodes. The edge nodes read devices and sensors in the physical world using Bluetooth Low Energy (BLE) and connect that information to the blockchain. Roles and Responsibilities

As a Backend Engineer, you will build cloud native solutions and improve existing ones on the Google Cloud Platform for the Nodle Network and related projects. You will bring your expertise in developing cost-efficient yet scalable services to the engineering team. This will include:

  • Engineering high-performance, high-capacity cloud native services using Goor Rust which are concise, testable, scalable, and adheres to strict security and privacy standards.
  • Draw from industry-leading best practices to contribute to Nodle’s engineering practices and technical infrastructure, improving overall reliability and efficiency.
  • Implement CI/CD pipelines on Github Actions as necessary to automate testing and deployments.
  • Build monitoring and alerting around the services as necessary to ensure we can detect issues before consumers.
  • Communicate effectively with your team both verbally and in writing.
  • Investigate issues when outages occur and fix them in a timely manner.
  • Collaborate remotely with different teams occasionally in different time-zones.
  • Bring your infrastructure-as-code skills to improve our infrastructure management by reviewing and upgrading our current practices.

 

Please note that we run mainly an asynchronous, remote work model at Nodle, however this role will need to adhere to the time zone stated below and will require early-morning or late-night availability from time to time.

 

Qualifications and Skills

You will be a good fit if you are a passionate and driven engineer with good awareness of the latest trends and technologies. You will care deeply about strengtheing the reliability of the Nodle infrastructure and services. Being able to work in an autonomous manner while sharing knowledge and expertise with the team is critical for success in this role.

You will be expected to take ownership of your work and pursue continuous improvement, proactively identifying present or potential issues and seeking to efficiently resolve them.

Additionally, you should have:

  • A tertiary qualification in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related discipline. Or 5+ years of experience in software development.
  • Previous experience in a backend development role.
  • Deep Cloud Engineering knowledge, preferably Google Cloud.  
  • Experience in implementing CI/CD pipeline, preferably with Github Actions or similar products (Tarvis or CircleCI).
  • Good understanding of infrastructure-as-code, preferably with Terraform.

 

Bonus skill:

  • Good understanding of decentralised and highly secure systems
  • Prior experiences as a Site Reliability Engineer
  • Prior experience as a DevOps engineer
  • Prior experience with Rust
  • Google Cloud certifications.

 

Location

You are based in Pacific Daylight Time (PDT), New Zealand Daylight Time (NZDT) or Australian Eastern Daylight Time (AEDT)

 

Compensation and Benefits

Compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
