Our Materials and Structural Analysis business helps customers drive ground breaking research and discoveries by delivering innovative microscopy, spectroscopy and microanalysis solutions, such as world-class scanning and transmission electron microscopes, DualBeam™ FIB-SEMs, and spectrometers, combined with sophisticated software suites.

How will you make an impact?

The Beam Technologies Advanced Manufacturing group is responsible for engineering and design solutions to support the production of electron microscope assemblies (eGun) and focused ion beam (FIB) columns and sources through the 4 tenets of the AM charter - Beam Tech DFX support, Driving improvements core proficiencies, new technology introduction and DFM for new production introductions to the production floor.

The Automation Engineer would be responsible for the development and implementation of novel automation solutions to help drive manufacturing yield and throughput. This will encompass mechanical, electrical, and software control systems.

What will you do?

  • Assist fellow engineers on both improvement and new product projects as they transition from concept through release. Responsible for finishing the work assigned to Operations Engineering.
  • Perform and assist in the development of mechanical and electrical automation needs to support equipment in aid of the manufacture of emerging and existing technologies. Work independently or with others to determine needed improvements and help with the design, engineering, and implementation.
  • May provide guidance or implement engineering changes to support factory and service as needed to achieve yield and cost goals.
  • Design equipment, tools, and test fixtures as needed to support and improve factory capabilities.
  • Conduct detailed fixing and analysis of system or component level problems that affect reliability, performance, etc. This includes the use of statistical analysis such as JMP, Statistical Process Control software, practical process improvement (PPI),or other established methods.
  • Perform hands-on assembly, testing and training of personnel as required during project work (i.e., assembly, test or measurement).
  • Additional tasks as needed to support business needs.

How will you get here?

Education:

  • Minimum required education: Bachelor's degree in a technical field such as chemistry, engineering or physics. (Strong preference toward mechatronics, robotics, and electrical design).
  • Master's degree preferred

Experience:

  • 2+ years of technical experience in high-tech industry environment in operations, development or manufacturing.
  • Experience with electron/ion microscopy a plus.
  • Proven experience with process improvements and methods.
  • Experience with use of statistical process control and statistical problem solving methods.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Willingness to work in high-tech industry manufacturing environment.
  • Must demonstrate ability to create user documentation, engineering reports, and analysis using such as MS Office.
  • Demonstrated ability to plan and resolve issues that involve gaining cooperation of multi-functional, multi-cultural groups and sites.
  • Willingness to work for extended period in clean room environment.
  • Ability to provide clear and concise analysis of data and experimental methods that may involve multiple factors.
  • Demonstrate excellent written and verbal communication skills in peer to peer interaction as well as in networking with senior internal and external personnel in own expertise area.
