Summary
You will serve as a CHEMIST in the Comprehensive Industrial Hygiene Laboratory of NAVENPVNTMEDU 2 NORFOLK.

Qualifications
- Experience examining two or more instruments, for example gas chromatographs, gas chromatograph mass spectrophotometers, high pressure liquid chromatographs, graphite furnaces, ion chromatography, or inductively coupled plasmas.
- Experience utilizing the mentioned instruments, to train others on the instrumentation.
- Experience writing and validating standard operating procedures.
- Experience examining on one or two different instruments, for example gas chromatographs, gas chromatograph mass spectrophotometers, high pressure liquid chromatographs, graphite furnaces, ion chromatography, or inductively coupled plasmas.
- Experience searching and reviewing all pertinent literature and references on possible approaches and methods that could be used to identify any known or unknown chemical contaminants.
- Experience planning and performing projects to test and evaluate these new analytical methods or approaches.

Education
Applicants must meet the following positive education qualifications requirements of the Office of Personnel Management (OPM) Qualifications Standards Manual: Applicants must possess.
- Degree: physical sciences, life sciences, or engineering that included 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by course work in mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics.
OR - Combination of education and experience -- course work equivalent to a major as shown in A above, including at least 30 semester hours in chemistry, supplemented by mathematics through differential and integral calculus, and at least 6 semester hours of physics, plus appropriate experience or additional education.
SUBSTITUTION OF EDUCATION FOR EXPERIENCE: Applicants may substitute the following education for the required experience, provided it demonstrates the knowledge, skills and abilities necessary to do the work of the position:
GS-09:
Successfully completed a master's or equivalent graduate degree.
Successfully completed two full years of progressively higher graduate level education leading to a master's degree.
GS-11:
Successfully completed a Ph.D. or equivalent doctoral degree.
Successfully completed three full years of progressively higher level graduate education leading to a Ph.D. or equivalent degree
COMBINATION OF EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: Equivalent combinations of education and experience may be combined to meet the total qualification requirements. Are you using your education to qualify? In addition to meeting all minimum qualification and eligibility requirements, ICTAP applicants must be well qualified for the position to receive consideration for special priority selection. A well-qualified ICTAP applicant is one who possesses the competencies and experience to perform the duties of the position successfully with orientation to learn/understand the activities, procedures, policies and processes. Demonstrated work experience in the occupation is typically qualifying for placement. This criterion cannot be met by education and training. ICTAP candidates must provide copies of all of the following documentation at the time of application: 1) agency notice; 2) most recent performance appraisal and 3) most recent SF-50 or notification of personnel action that includes position, grade level, and duty location. Applicants who do not provide this documentation will not receive consideration as an ICTAP candidate.
PPP applicants will be placed at the FPL, if determined Well Qualified (WQ). To receive priority consideration, the FPL must be the same grade level or equivalent of the retained grade or the grade held immediately prior to separation.
If selected below the full performance level, you may be noncompetitively promoted to the next higher grade level after meeting all regulatory requirements, and upon the recommendation of management. Promotion is neither implied nor guaranteed.
