Job Purpose

Job Purpose

Responsible for ensuring products are accurately classified for sale and use such that applicable national and international laws are followed. The Compliance Specialist will also provide wider compliance advice, service, and guidance to users within LGC.

Key Responsibilities

Manage Product Classification

  • Classify new and existing products according to controlled substance regulations (principally Canadian), export regulations (Canadian, EU, US, and UN) and others such as Chemical Weapons, Ozone Depleters, Military Dual use and Anti-Torture

Managing Product Transport Issues

  • Understand and apply relevant embargo controls
  • Classify for transport and hazard requirements and customs tariffs
  • Provide guidance on general compliance requirements
  • Ensure appropriate licenses are in place for holding, selling, import and export of goods
  • Any other compliance or regulatory related duties as required

Manage Regulatory Requirements

  • Ensure activities in Canada are carried out in accordance with license requirements and Canadian regulations (may include Canadian regulations with impacted by global conventions ex. Stockholm convention, INCB).
  • Maintain and manage the compliance filing system for regulatory documents
  • Prepare and summarize the compliance related monthly/quarterly/annual reports, amendment applications etc. are submitted to the regulatory authorities in timely manner.
  • Supports with filling of official regulatory assessments for new products and raw materials.
  • Assists in the management of regulatory programs and activities involving compliance to regulations and maintenance of all transaction records.
  • Proactively manage and communicate issues, scopes, progress, and risks to ensure Supervisor and other members of the Compliances team are kept informed as appropriate
  • Maintain administrative compliance of government regulations and requirements related to Controlled Substances and ECL, OZD, and other applicable legislations.
  • Supporting Order to Cash process for controlled/ regulated products
  • Assessing customer order requirements to ensure legislative requirements are met
  • Ensure order specific requirements are promptly communicated to appropriate departments
  • Review transactions of controlled/regulated products and identify and alert for suspicious activity
  • Investigate critical issues triggered by DPL checks

Qualifications

Education Requirements

  • Minimum educational requirement includes a BSc in Chemistry or a related subject area, with a background in organic chemistry. Equivalent experience will also be considered.
  • Preferred: MSc in Organic Chemistry

Proficiencies Required

  • Experience in one or more areas described in the Job responsibilities
  • Knowledge of Canadian controlled substance legislation would be a particular advantage
  • Must acquire a positive Criminal Record Check required for Controlled Drugs and Substance and Precursors License

Role Dimensions

  • External Regulatory Government Agencies
  • Works with Departments to ensure and promote Compliance
  • Coordinate with departments at site including Customer Service, Finished Goods, Shipping teams, Procurement, Production, Analytical, for regulated substance related activities.

Physical & Working Conditions/Hybrid Work

  • Work will be conducted in an office and occasionally in a laboratory environment
  • Occasional local and international travel to other Company sites may be required
