Contract: Sr. Cloud Operations and Automation Engineer

This is an engagement through Upwork’s Hybrid Workforce Solutions (HWS) Team. Our Hybrid Workforce Solutions Team is a global group of professionals that support Upwork’s business. Our HWS team members are located all over the world.

•  Utilizing modern automation/orchestration technologies and tools, engineer and deliver Lifecycle Automation = Automation to package, test, deploy and operate everything we do in Cloud Engineering at a global scale
• Responsible for deploying, configuring, managing, and monitoring cloud-based resources on IaaS and PaaS platforms
• Identify and help to eliminate (remove and replace) manual, hands-on processes with scalable, programmatic automation and user-facing tools as needed
• Collaborate with cross-functional teams of developers, QA and platform engineers to accomplish objectives of consistent strategy for automation across teams
• Assisting team leads on design DevOps deployment and operation strategies and taking them through to full implementation
• Should be able to find gaps in operational documentation and bridge those gaps by either writing documentation or updating the existing ones
  

• Hands-on experience creating automation using APIs from AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud
• Strong experience with cloud virtualization technologies: Docker, AWS, Azure, VMware, Vagrant
• Competent with scripting languages: Bash, Python, or Perl. Have created test or automation scripts that interact with REST APIs or SOAP interfaces utilizing JSON or XML
• Extensive experience in or supporting Production Engineering, Lifecycle DevOps, or modern "Site" Reliability in a medium to a large company.
• Experience in IaC, CaC tools such as Terraform, Chef, or Packer
• Experience with GitOps CI/CD pipeline tooling such as ArgoCD, Jenkins
• Experience in PaaS technologies such as Kubernetes, Ranchers
• Ability to work independently and handle multiple priorities under stringent timelines
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, proactive about documentation and communication
