The Crown Publishing Group is seeking an experienced, detail oriented, and creative Copy Editor/Proofreader who will be part of the Ad and Promo team across the Crown, Crown Currency, Ten Speed Press, Ten Speed Graphic, and Clarkson Potter imprints. This is an exciting opportunity to work with a rapidly expanding group that publishes titles in the current affairs, social justice, politics, history, business, memoir, gift, graphic novel, and cookbook categories. Notable authors include President Barack Obama, former First Lady Michelle Obama, Rachel Maddow, Erik Larson, Martha Stewart, Ina Garten, Dolly Parton, Yotam Ottolenghi, Matthew McConaughey, Dungeons and Dragons, and Liane Moriarty.

Overview: As a Copy Editor/Proofreader at Crown Publishing, you will play a crucial role in ensuring the accuracy and quality of our marketing deliverables. Your attention to detail, strong grammar skills, and adherence to style guides will help maintain our brand's consistency and credibility. You will also have the opportunity to serve as a Copywriter, creating content for various advertising and marketing materials. The ideal candidate will have experience copyediting and writing copy in a fast-paced, deadline-driven environment. This position reports to the Assistant Copy Director.

Responsibilities:

  • Correct grammar, spelling, and punctuation errors in marketing deliverables.
  • Fact-check content to ensure accuracy and credibility.
  • Verify that content aligns with the appropriate style guide, such as AP Style or

    Chicago Style.

  • Edit and revise existing copy to improve clarity, readability, and impact.
  • Work closely with designers and other team members to ensure the integration of the copy with visual elements.
  • Collaborate with the marketing team to develop compelling and engaging copy for various marketing materials, including but not limited to, promotional materials, advertisements, and website content.
  • Stay updated on industry best practices and emerging trends in copywriting and proofreading.
  • Write clear and compelling content, including ads, scripts, and long-form materials, that effectively reflects a book's positioning and engages the target audience.
  • Participate in brainstorming sessions to generate creative ideas and propose copy concepts that align with marketing strategies.
  • Interpret creative direction and technical information and transform them into persuasive copy concepts.

Qualifications and Requirements:

  • Previous experience copy editing and proofreading in a professional setting; familiarity with producing copy for advertising or marketing campaigns a plus
  • Excellent command of the English language, including grammar, spelling, and punctuation
  • Strong attention to detail and a meticulous eye for spotting errors.
  • Familiarity with different style guides, such as AP Style or Chicago Style.
  • Ability to work independently and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
  • Effective writing and communication skills
  • Strong time management and organizational skills, with the ability to meet tight deadlines
  • The ability to multitask and work under pressure
  • Previous copywriting or writing for print and digital media channels experience a plus
  • Proficiency with Microsoft office software
  • Understanding of SEO concepts
  • Creativity, adaptability and the ability to work collaboratively within a team

The salary for this position is $63,000. All positions are currently eligible for annual profit award or bonus, subject to Company results. Kindly include your cover letter and resume in our application system.
