Job Description
What You'll Do
Join Cisco's People Legal Team and be a trusted and creative legal partner to Cisco's People & Communities (HR) organization and the entire enterprise. You'll pave pathways that will enhance Cisco's employee and team experience. You'll tackle problems that have no easy answers. Every day will be different as you help leaders and People & Communities manage Cisco's dynamic business, providing counsel to clients in every area of employment law, including equity and inclusion, workplace accommodations, harassment, discrimination, wage and hour, and compliance with new laws. You will work with people leaders to develop talent, shape Cisco fairness practices, provide learning opportunities, investigate concerns and develop an expansive legal environment. You will also handle litigation and respond to agency charges and demand letters.
In addition, you'll be a teammate to the best colleagues in the business and grow in an encouraging environment. The People Legal Team consists of pragmatic lawyers and legal professionals responsible for the full portfolio of the company's international employment law matters who sit at the intersection of law and culture. We take pride in collectively thinking through the practical implications of risk and how to help run a company that is consistently ranked (throughout the world) as one of the best places to work. In this role, you'll report to an Associate General Counsel Director, Employment Law.
Your Minimum Qualifications:
- Juris Doctorate (JD) with a strong academic record
- Bar admission in any jurisdiction with good standing, with a minimum of 5 years of employment law work at a law firm and/or in-house
- Experience in employment litigation and responding to government agency charges (EEOC or similar state agency)
- Experience in providing advice and counsel in a wide array of employment law areas, with an emphasis on providing practical guidance
Desired Skills and Characteristics:
- You are an attorney with a real passion for employment law. You love partnering with leaders, HR professionals and Cisco team members to find the best solutions. You have a deep understanding of federal and state employment-related issues.
- You ask the right questions, think strategically, and are willing to question the status quo. You listen to and understand the needs of your clients.
- You are agile, think on your feet, and are not afraid to make decisions and take sensible risks.
- You have excellent social skills, are able to lead cross-functional projects, and are a standout colleague.
- You also are self-starter, able to work independently, and have excellent written and oral advocacy and interpersonal skills.
- Excellent client management, writing, advocacy and organizational skills

Why Cisco?
#WeAreCisco. We are all unique, but collectively we bring our talents to work as a team, to develop innovative technology and power a more inclusive, digital future for everyone. How do we do it? Well, for starters - with people like you!
Nearly every internet connection around the world touches Cisco. We're the Internet's optimists. Our technology makes sure the data travelling at light speed across connections does so securely, yet it's not what we make but what we make happen which marks us out. We're helping those who work in the health service to connect with patients and each other; schools, colleges and universities to teach in even the most challenging of times. We're helping businesses of all shapes and size to connect with their employees and customers in new ways, providing people with access to the digital skills they need and connecting the most remote parts of the world - whether through 5G, or otherwise.
We tackle whatever challenges come our way. We have each other's backs, we recognise our accomplishments, and we grow together. We celebrate and support one another - from big and small things in life to big career moments. And giving back is in our DNA (we get 10 days off each year to do just that).
We know that powering an inclusive future starts with us. Because without diversity and a dedication to equality, there is no moving forward. Our 30 Inclusive Communities, that bring people together around commonalities or passions, are leading the way. Together we're committed to learning, listening, caring for our communities, whilst supporting the most vulnerable with a collective effort to make this world a better place either with technology, or through our actions.
So, you have colorful hair? Don't care. Tattoos? Show off your ink. Like polka dots? That's cool. Pop culture geek? Many of us are. Passion for technology and world changing? Be you, with us! #WeAreCisco
