This opportunity is accountable for delivering high quality legal services across the organization by developing strong business acumen and providing solution-oriented advice to management, while minimizing legal, regulatory and compliance risks.

Primary Responsibilities • Counsel on a variety of legal, insurance regulatory, and underwriting compliance issues• Negotiate, draft, and advise on legal risks and liabilities associated with business decisions, insurance product offerings, legal agreements, policyholder notices, advertising/marketing materials and other documents with potential legal implications• Build strong relationships with business clients by utilizing in-depth knowledge of areas of responsibility to resolve legal inquiries and provide effective support for the resolution of legal, regulatory and underwriting compliance issues
• Conduct internal investigations and recommend resolutions to any regulatory or underwriting compliance issues• Advise senior managers on basic to moderate impact legal matters by utilizing legal expertise to assess risk and recommend effective and appropriate solutions• Prioritize workload by evaluating urgency of issues and delegating tasks to paralegals to increase efficiency and effectiveness of legal department• Analyze, research, assess, and advise business leaders and other internal stakeholders in connection with levels of legal, regulatory or underwriting compliance risk associated with assigned business unit, while recommending any effective and appropriate solutions• Manage and direct caseloads by or against the company to successful outcomes• Contribute to cross-functional decision-making by collaborating with internal partners and participating in multi-disciplinary teams to provide legal expertise and assist with the development of company policies and best practices• Manage legal projects by defining scope, setting milestones, delegating tasks, tracking progress and reporting project results to ensure successful and efficient implementation• Participate in training and reporting trends and developments to key clients and stakeholders• Provide training to key clients and stakeholders on key legal issues and topics

Required Education • Doctoral Degree

Required Experience • 4 years relevant experience

Required Licenses/Certifications • Admitted to the Bar

Preferred Experience • Experience in an insurance regulatory/compliance legal environment• In-house counsel or law firm experience
• Increasing levels of responsibility

Preferred Knowledge • Legal and regulatory research methodology• Legal research databases• Business and financial acumen• Insurance regulatory and compliance knowledge• Policies, practices, trends, and information affecting the organization

US Only - Travel Frequency • Infrequent (approximately 1-4 trips annually)

US Only - Physical Demands • General office jobs: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is not substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Must have the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. Must be able to operate basic office equipment including telephone, headset and computer. Incumbent must be able to lift basic office equipment up to 20 lbs.

Salary Range For Role * may vary based on geography:

$95,000 - $119,000.00 plus bonus and benefits
