Creative Director (Copywriting)

Colossal Biosciences is seeking a creative mind with a strong writing background to bring voice to the brand. This role will bring to life the story of the world’s first de-extinction company. With a focus on social media and digital properties, this role will act as the bridge between Colossal’s social/digital practice and creative production team to develop a brand voice, guide creative concepting for owned channels, and ideate big ideas around major company news and moments. 

While creative experience in the advertising and/or marketing world are a major benefit, this role is distinctly different from many consumer-facing brands in that rather than focusing on clever, quippy writing, this role will need to help break down complex science into interesting, attention grabbing pieces that encourage audience engagement with the brand. 

This position will be based out of Dallas, TX.

Duties & Responsibilities:

• Bring Colossal’s brand storytelling to life through creative writing and scientific interpretation.
• Play a leadership role among Colossal’s digital creative team, guiding the development of owned social content, longer-form video content, and execution of big ideas.
• Bring Colossal’s brand voice to life in social and digital channels.
• Set a writing style guide and define brand voice for Colossal’s community management team.
• Contribute big ideas and creative thinking to Colossal’s broader marketing organization. 

Required Skills & Abilities:

• Expertise in social and digital marketing
• Exceptional writing and communications skills
• Interest in evolutionary biology, genetic sciences, and the ability to break complex scientific information down into easy-to-understand pieces
• Self-starter and motivated by Colossal’s mission to address the extinction crisis
• Creative leader who can help guide a creative team to develop high-performing social content and guide big idea thinking through execution
• Strong initiative and desire to drive meaningful contributions to the broader team
• Strong creative thinking and ability to build creative ideas based on strategic briefs

Education & Experience:

• Bachelor’s degree
• 5+ years of experience in creative marketing, advertising, social media, or a related field
• Prior experience in scientific writing is a plus
