About the role:

The AIG Travel Rapid Learning Lab® delivers leading user experiences and optimal conversions for our own and our travel partners' integrated and non-integrated travel insurance sales.

The lab sits in the heart of the AIG Travel business and leverages cutting-edge quantitative methods (such as Design of Experiments and machine learning) to dramatically improve our interactions with our customers and prospective customers. There is a strong focus on improving Digital Direct Marketing functions across all customer touchpoints, and the customer experience in the digital space.

As a Data Engineer within the lab, you will work with all of AIG Travel's business units, both domestic and international. The work will support our efforts across the entire sales funnel, including media channel optimization, prospect identification and targeting, testing messaging and creative effectiveness, real-time digital bidding optimization, website and call center testing and optimization, and customer experience improvement within fulfillment.

What you will do:

• Develop and oversee large-scale data processing pipelines in distributed/cloud computing environments
• Extract, clean, merge and manipulate data from multiple sources that may be in structured, semi-structured or unstructured formats
• Load data into our data lake, data warehouse or associated systems
• Develop workflows to facilitate or improve data availability for analytics purposes
• Work with our data scientists to enable model deployment into production environments, including integration with other production systems where required
• Ensure our data is valid and reliable through data quality assurance
• Document development work for data asset, data lineage and infrastructure management
• Design and assess potential technologies and solutions to grow our data engineering capabilities, communicating recommendations and proposals to internal stakeholders
• Build solutions that are scalable and create great business impact
• Communicate the outcomes of implementations and analyses to technical and non-technical audiences
• Work with business sponsors, AIG's Travel Partners and IT teams and translate their needs into practical solutions

What you bring to the table:

• Advanced knowledge of SQL, developing queries for relational databases and manipulating semi-structured and unstructured data
• Strong programming skills and experience in scripting languages used for data engineering (in particular, Python), and an ability to write scripts to integrate and automate workflow components and APIs
• Experience with large-scale data processing engines, such as Apache Spark
• Familiarity with Snowflake and AWS services, and knowledge of which services are appropriate for given use cases (e.g., EMR, S3, Glue, Lambda, Step Functions, SageMaker Pipelines)
• Experience with tools for DAG-based workflows and MLOps, such as Apache Airflow or MLflow
• Proven ability to effectively manage your time while multitasking between time-sensitive projects and competing, dynamic priorities, while also maintaining strong and productive relationships with internal stakeholders and external partners
• Strong verbal and written communication skills, listening and teamwork skills, and effective presentation skills; this is essential since you will have a lot of exposure to different internal groups (data, IT, actuarial, medical, underwriting, legal etc.) as well as AIG's Travel Partners, such as airlines and online travel agencies
• Proficiency in creating and presenting effective and visually appealing PowerPoint presentations
• 5+ years of relevant experience (may be flexed for exceptional candidates)
• Experience with Digital Direct Marketing technologies is a plus
