Job Summary:
As a DevOps Principal lead, you will work closely with the global cloud, architecture, security, and application teams and will be responsible for the technical innovation, and evolution of our core DevOps strategy leveraging both our existing DevOps services and looking ahead to new ones.
You will be a member of the existing global DevOps team and provide technical leadership to four DevOps/Cloud engineers helping to direct, guide, and mentor them. Helping to define the DevOps standards, policies, and processes for both the team and the organization to follow.
You will be expected to be fully hands-on, have a strong love of technology, and have a desire to learn more, maintaining awareness of industry trends, technical advances, and new DevOps practices.
This is a great opportunity for a DevOps Senior Engineer to advance into a leadership role whilst remaining hands-on, continuing to build your tech skills and love of DevOps. If suitable, future opportunities also exist to eventually move into a management position over time.
What we are looking for
- 2-3 years in a senior technical role being responsible for the delivery of DevOps-related solutions, managing multiple priorities, and providing technical guidance to customers (internal/external)
- 3-4 years of commercial experience using Jenkins, and/or Azure DevOps
- Proven experience with designing, and building new CI/CD pipelines in YAML
- Proven experience with developing templates for CI/CD pipelines in ADOS
- Hands-on experience using REST API calls using tools like PowerShell, POSTMAN
- Hands-on experience with writing and managing IAC code in terraform
- Hands-on experience in Azure, Azure Portal, or any other cloud environments
- Strong attention to detail with a professional commitment to high-quality deliverables
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including producing usable and maintainable documentation
- Good hands-on knowledge of Source Code Management (Version Control System) tools like Git and Subversion
- Proficient in developing Continuous Integration/ Delivery pipelines using Jenkins and Azure DevOps
- A strong business and technical vision with a desire to deliver a first-rate customer service
- Familiarity with test automation, and related test frameworks and tools
What you'll do
- Lead and guide the design, and development of reusable DevOps components, scripts, code and document custom automation frameworks to be used globally within Markel
- Work with the rest of the Cloud/DevOps group to gather requirements, prototype, architect, plan, implement/update, build and execute testing plans, perform quality reviews, manage operations, triage issues and fix operational issues for all of our core customer-facing products and services
- Establish & Maintain DevOps practices and automation for continuous integration (CI) and continuous delivery/deployment (CD) throughout the product development lifecycle while building support for continuous testing and configuration management to enable zero-downtime deployment
- Lead the technical evaluation and selection process for improving performance, monitoring, conducting gap analysis, predicting trends for system performance, capacity, efficiencies, and reliability to recommend enhancements to better meet product level SLAs and standards
- Become an SME on the capabilities of Azure IaaS, PaaS services, and use of serverless technologies, including AKS, helping the Cloud/DevOps group provide pragmatic support, solutions, and guidance to customers
- Automate tasks to eliminate the need for manual infrastructure interaction by the engineering staff, whether it is code release or runtime stability and recoverability of the application in the cloud, including self-healing and SRE
- Mentor junior technical members of the group helping to establish and introduce best practices whilst also helping evolve our core DevOps services to support the needs of the organization

Work location is flexible if approved by the Company, except that position may not be performed in Colorado.
