As a Counterpart DevOps Software Engineer, you will be a direct contributor in our suite of dynamic data services, as well as the main owner of our K8 and Serverless infrastructure that we are leveraging to shape the future of insurance. You will be a primary stakeholder in all Counterpart security and infrastructure decisions and will be in charge of the continuing development and maintenance of the core infrastructure that powers Counterpart. In addition, you will help to set the culture, rituals, and processes that underpin a high functioning engineering team and the organization more broadly.

YOU WILL

• Focus on the secure transfer of data across all pipelines and securing connections between primary infrastructure.
• Design and build the next generation of Counterpart’s infrastructure, frameworks and policies to expand data science and insurance initiatives at scale.
• Ensure our platform exceeds goals for availability, capacity, efficiency, scalability, security and performance in a growing microservices architecture.
• Oversee the day-to-day operations of our K8 and Serverless systems.
• Manage the security infrastructure of Counterpart including network, machine, and access management policies across all our environments.
• Be a lead architect of new systems that focusing on performance, extensibility, and scalability to achieve our goals of underwriting the internet.
• Make intelligent design decisions based on well researched tradeoffs.
• Collaborate with other engineers, product managers, and designers to develop major new products.
• Work closely with our engineering and data teams to implement complex and evolving systems, while supporting continuous process automation.

YOU HAVE

• Minimum 3 years of experience working with Kubernetes systems.
• Minimum 5 years experience in cloud administration on AWS platforms (including EKS, ECS, and Lambda).
• Minimum 3 years experience building and maintaining networks, VPNs, and architecting/maintaining production environments.
• At least 3 years experience building continuous integration/continuous delivery pipelines (Jenkins, CircleCI, TravisCI, Github Actions, etc).
• At least 3 years experience delivering immutable infrastructure-as-code solutions with tools including Terraform, Ansible, Chef, or other Infrastructure as code and continuous integrated platforms.
• Implementing Infrastructure as code and continuous integrated security in a fully automated deployment container platform.
• Experience with security best practices in server configuration, access controls, and expert experience with administration of Linux or other Unix variants (Ubuntu, CentOS, RedHat, Solaris, etc).
• Experience managing system security infrastructure for employee devices (e.g. Rippling, JumpCloud).
• Past experience building scalable infrastructure in a production environment.
• A passion for both infrastructure and constantly learning in an ever-changing environment.
• Excitement for building and experimenting with new technologies and systems.

• Fernando Guayasamin, Lead Software Engineer: Fernando is a highly-skilled software engineer with over 18 years of lead experience in the field, with a broad background including platform engineering, data strategy, enterprise systems, mobile application development and embedded software development.
• Derrick Franco, Lead Software Engineer: After teaching himself to code at 13, Derrick went on to co-found Jumpstart in addition to building out the technical divisions at InvestorsAlley and Phinaz Media Group. Nowadays Derrick spends his time reading, with his fiancée, and working on his podcast The Future of Work Project.
• Tobias Schuler, Head of Data Analytics: After becoming a Fellow of the Casualty Actuarial Society and working as a consultant actuary at EY for several years, Tobias went on to drive the actuarial data & systems teams at QBE. He further leveraged his deep insurance and technical expertise at Munich Re Digital Partners in North America, where he headed data and analytics and oversaw the data infrastructure behind some of their largest programs.
• Newton Troung, Lead Data Engineer: Newton joins Counterpart with 7+ years of experience in platform and data engineering. In his last company Thrive Market, he had a hand in building out new microservices and architecting data pipelines with Airflow and Spark. He's vegetarian and loves trying new restaurants when traveling. Nowadays he's busy keeping up with his 2-year-old and doing outdoor activities with his family.
