Church Hill Activities & Tutoring (CHAT) is a nonprofit organization that serves the youth of Richmond’s East End through education, vocational training, after-school enrichment, and community partnerships. Director of Development is a director level position that is part of the Shared Services team. The incumbent will guide and direct the strategy, development, and execution of annual and long-range plans for segmented direct fundraising to active and lapsed donors, event donors, as well as prospective donors, using a variety of methods which attain both revenue and fundraising health goals. The Director of Development reports to the Sr. Director of Development & Operations and supervises the Development Manager.

Essential Duties
- Supervise, train, and evaluate the work of others and perform related human resources functions
- Plan and lead all unrestricted and annual giving direct donor fundraising campaigns and events pertaining to donors of less than $10,000 annually
- Direct the integrated use of a variety direct response methods including but not limited to direct mail, email, telephone, events, radio, internet and digital channels.
- Supervise development operations, ensuring that all aspects of donor giving is accurately recorded and reported and that all donor/prospect tracking is consistent with best practices
- Build and manage annual development team budgetÂ
- Monitor weekly, monthly, quarterly and annual data to achieve development goals.
- Achieve donor retention rates that meet or exceed non-profit sector benchmarksÂ
- Build mid-level donor segment and feed the major gift pipeline
- Collaborate and work closely with CHAT’s in-house communications team to assure maximum retention of donors are achieved as well revenue and new donor acquisition goals.Â

Qualifications: Any combination of stated education, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and/or training that demonstrates the ability to perform essential duties is acceptable
Required QualificationsÂ
- Faith in Jesus Christ, affirming the Apostles’ Creed and lived out in a faith community
- Bachelor’s degree, preferably in a related field
- 5+ years related and progressively productive experience related to direct response and mid-level fundraising including staff management and lead generation.Â
- Excellent written and verbal communication skills and command of the English language
- Strong project management skills with flexibility to manage multiple projects, adapt to change, and deliver on time
- Familiarity with Salesforce or other donor-related platformsÂ
Position Overview & Compensation
- Full-time, ExemptÂ
- Anticipated hiring range: $60,000 to $75,000, negotiable and commensurate with skills and experience
