Engineering Analyst- Bevel Gear Design

We are looking for a new colleague to join our Gear Manufacturing Department at our plant in Marysville, MI!

Position Summary: The Bevel Gear Design Analyst is responsible for developing and implementing optimal bevel gear sets for each vehicle application in which Marysville manufactures. The development analyst coordinates with manufacturing, product and NVH engineering and integrates their inputs to produce the form, fit and function documentation to completely define the product.

Position Responsibilities:

• Work closely with Supplier Quality Engineers, Auditors, Process Engineers, Maintenance Employees, Planners, Logistics, etc. in order to define corrective actions and investigate for continuous improvement efforts.
• Participate in all aspects of simultaneous engineering efforts for new projects (e.g., APQP, QR83)
• Generate, prepare, and present regular reports to both internal and external stakeholders.
• Interpret bevel gear prints including dimensions, tolerances, and specifications.
• Generate RB bevel gear drawings within AutoCAD, 2D & 3D format.
• Provide layout information to ZF design department for generating RDU and FDU bevel gear drawings.
• Investigate and resolve issues associated with non-conforming bevel gear sets from vehicle testing or customer returns.
• Lead 8D investigations or similar corrective action processes derived from product and process audits, from internal quality investigations, or customer complaints.
• Daily review of assembly and manufacturing data to identify trending before rejects occur.
• Train both salary (production and process engineers) and hourly (team leaders and members) in the tooth topography operations of bevel gear machining.
• Perform capability studies as required within manufacturing.
• Maintaining tooth topography summaries from the CNC operations and CMM files from the CMM machines.

Essential Skills and Experience:

• Bachelor's degree and/or 4 - 5+ years of professional level engineering/analysis experience encompassing one or more of the following areas: Test Engineering/Analysis, Gear Manufacturing Analysis/Planning, Product Design/Development and or Program/Launch Management. Strong mechanical aptitude
• Working knowledge of AutoCAD 2D and 3D design for the purpose of creating drawings.
• 5 years of experience within bevel gear manufacturing.
• Ability to design bevel gear sets with Gleason (Cage/Gage) and/or Klingenberg (Komet/KIMoS) software.
• Strong computer skills. Must be proficient in MS-Office, SPC, DoE, and understanding of basics of noise testing.
• Knowledgeable in areas of Mistake Proofing and Problem-Solving Techniques, APQP process, SPC, Noise Test Software, and specific software on the production equipment.
• Basic English language competency.

Preferred Skills and Experience:

• 5 or more years manufacturing experience in automotive assembly and or machining.
• Gear Design analysis experience.
• Basic German language.
