What you’ll do

As our Engineering Manager, you will play a pivotal role in ensuring the seamless operation of "Listing Wizards". Together with your colleagues from the team, you will provide a great user and developer experience by delivering a qualitative listing insertion flow. Working in tandem with our Product Manager, you'll be responsible for fostering a cohesive team dynamic, fostering effective communication, and maintaining alignment within the team.

• You will lead and manage our team of 7 engineers or more
• You will support them in building their careers, coaching them, and finding mentors when needed
• You will have line management responsibility for the Listing Wizards team. This will enable you to have your foot in both worlds, engineering leadership and product development
• You will participate in the engineering manager team, representing the needs of your engineers. We will rely on your insights for our teams processes, culture, and delivery
• You will be responsible for growing and developing the team by leading by example, creating team cohesion, encouraging mutual support and collaboration, promoting SMG values
• Be a motivating force in engineering. Positively contributing to our work environment is a big part of your mission. We want our processes, rituals, culture, and interactions to be net positive influences on our daily lives. This doesn’t just happen by chance and requires continued love, attention, and support
• Most of all, you will be a process engineer and challenge our way of working every single day. Someone who has taken the step from trying to understand machines, to understanding people and how they work together. From designing algorithms for computers to designing processes for people. Just like a good engineer knows when to add and when to simplify, a good Engineering Manager navigates the muddier waters and knows what makes an efficient process.

Qualifications

• You have 5 or more years of experience building software products and at least 3 years as a engineering manager or a team lead
• Positive attitude and can-do mentality
• You have a strong background in software development, with a solid understanding of the fundamentals of software architecture
• You have excellent communication skills and know when it is appropriate to solve a hairy problem in a meeting or outline a complex problem in text and diagrams
• You understand how to break down complex problems into manageable pieces of work
• You have experience building products. You have successfully worked in product teams, and have delivered features from idea through minimum lovable product to production deployment. You insist on working in an iterative process and know how to (and why) avoid big bang releases
• You have experience building modern applications (in one of the following areas: frontend, mobile, backend, search, data storage, SRE)
• You know how to drive the team toward success and how to make sure that what has been committed for is also delivered
