Role Summary

Evernorth Health Services is seeking a proactive self-starter and experienced, seasoned communications strategist to lead communications for Evernorth - the health services business portfolio within The Cigna Group. Evernorth offers a broad range of coordinated and point solution health services and capabilities, as well as those from partners across the health care system, in Pharmacy Benefits, Home Delivery Pharmacy, Specialty Pharmacy, Distribution and Care Delivery and Management Solutions to health plans, employers, government organizations and health care providers.

Today, 2/3 of the Fortune 50 entrusts Evernorth as a partner in health, and Evernorth has relationships with the top 10 health plans. As a result, more than 180 million customers have access to Evernorth products and solutions.

The Evernorth Communications Managing Director will lead all Evernorth communications, and will report to The Cigna Group Chief Communications Officer. This key leadership role will lead the overall communications strategy, planning and execution for business, including executive communications for the President & CEO of Evernorth Health Services. This individual will also lead a team of highly experienced and talented communicators.

The ideal candidate will have health care, PBM, or pharma experience and will possess the skills to develop proactive and reactive comprehensive communications strategies. This individual is a seasoned strategist, a quick learner, able to lead work independently, deadline driven and have the ability to develop deep relationships with C-level executives.

Key Responsibilities

  • Serves as the communications leader developing strategic communications plans and leads the development and execution of comprehensive, high-quality communications for key internal and external stakeholders including clients, external media, Evernorth and Cigna employees, and industry thought leaders.

  • The Evernorth communications leader will be accountable for building communications strategies that safeguard and advance the company's business priorities and external reputation, while ensuring a consistent messaging aligned to Evernorth's mission and values.

  • Leads a strong and experienced team through the development and execution of a wide variety of internal and external communication activities and tactics, such as town halls, leadership meetings, internal and external leadership presentations, reputation management initiatives, and external thought leadership. The Managing Director will also lead relationship with relevant external communications agency partners.

  • Serves as the primary communications partner for the President of Evernorth Health Services, and leads a team to support the business and its leaders, providing counsel on solutions that help achieve business objectives. Develops strategies and implements tactics to communicate business priorities.

  • Builds strong relationships across Evernorth and The Cigna Group, and collaborates with other teams, including Legal, Federal and State Government Affairs, Finance, Marketing and Human Resources.

  • Partners closely with media relations team on media engagement.

  • Works across teams and businesses; ensures appropriate processes are followed and obtains final approvals from subject matter experts, project owners and compliance/legal team.

  • Monitors and evaluates results of communications programs, using specific metrics to track progress and insights for continuous improvement.

Qualifications

  • Extensive Health care, pharma and/or PBM communications experience required.

  • Bachelor's degree in communications or related discipline and at least 15+ years' experience in a corporate communications, government or pharmaceutical communications, or public relations agency setting.

  • Strong writing and editing skills a must; ability to write for a variety of audiences across multiple communication channels/vehicles, including online, broadcast and social media.

  • Experience leading a highly talented and experienced team along with external agency communications partners.

  • A strategic thinker with the ability to translate highly complex, technical content into concise and succinct stories.

  • Experience in working closely with senior executives and providing communications counsel.

  • A record of success in juggling multiple projects and deadlines, and working in a highly-matrixed, deadline-sensitive environment.

  • Comfortable working with ambiguous scenarios with the ability to pivot directions as needed.

  • Proactive self-starter who demonstrates good judgment as well as tact and discretion to work with Cigna employees at all levels.

  • Strong creative skills, including with visual communications to convey strategies and messages, and experience in internal and external event planning and messaging.

  • ~25% travel (U.S.) required.

If you will be working at home occasionally or permanently, the internet connection must be obtained through a cable broadband or fiber optic internet service provider with speeds of at least 10Mbps download/5Mbps upload.

For this position, we anticipate offering an annual salary of 198,500 - 330,800 USD / yearly, depending on relevant factors, including experience and geographic location.

This role is also anticipated to be eligible to participate in an annual bonus and long term incentive plan.
