Exhibitions Project Manager

Overview

The Exhibitions Project Manager position is responsible for the overall project management of exhibitions and projects from the AltaMed Art Collection, from conception to implementation. The Exhibitions Project Manager is familiar with Chicano art and preferably fluent in Spanish. Excellent communication, critical thinking, creative problem solving, attention to detail, and multitasking are essential skills necessary for this position.

Responsibilities

1. Oversee all aspects of exhibition/project production, including but not limited to planning and establishing production schedule, identifying vendors, providing installation renderings, overseeing contractors and construction projects, managing installation teams, monitoring budgets with strict deadlines, developing project goals, work plans, budgets, and timelines
2. Provide a fresh approach to exhibition/project development. Bring in guest curators as needed
3. Exhibition maintenance; proactively identify problems and anticipate repairs
4. Communicate clearly with the Art Collection team, including any contractors and stakeholders. Organize meetings and ensure that everyone is aware of deadlines and deliverables
5. Create and manage exhibition and program budgets
6. Responsible for oversight of key partner and vendor negotiations and contracts. Draft project-related contracts, ensure contract compliance, manage vendors and external consultants
7. Act as spokesperson for the AltaMed Art Collection to outside groups as needed, and serve as a conduit of information into the team from outside
8. Stay current with trends and best practices in exhibition design
9. Supervise department staff, contractors, volunteers, and interns as needed
10. Maintain organization and cleanliness of work, storage, and exhibition areas
11. Develop installation manuals as needed
12. Work with curators, architects, exhibition designers, preparators, and artists to design and develop floor plans and exhibition layouts
13. Safely handle art and objects placed within the AltaMed Art Collection's care, using best practices. Ensure standards of care and safe handling are upheld by everyone at all times
14. Comply with and uphold safety standards for all equipment use
15. Research and write educational and informational exhibition didactics and labels
16. Assist with creating condition reports and other exhibition-related forms
17. Research and write curricula and activity guides for exhibitions as needed
18. Assist with copywriting/content creation for e-marketing, social media, and other marketing
19. Support grants as needed; write and/or edit narratives and reports, manage and track timelines and deliverables, review applications for exhibitions/programs.

Qualifications

1. Bachelor's degree preferred in the areas of Museum Studies, Art, Art History, or related field, or equivalent relevant experience and professional courses required.
2. Minimum of 5 years of museum or gallery experience working on art exhibitions with expertise in exhibition development, planning, management, and operations required.
3. Non-profit experience desired but not required.
