Summary
The position is responsible for all phases of electrical work in exhibition galleries and public spaces including installation, repair, inspection, troubleshooting, testing, loading and maintenance. The incumbent also supports the lighting installation phase for temporary exhibitions and the permanent collection. The incumbent is also responsible for the electrical work and lighting of special events, music concerts and other National Gallery functions.

Qualifications
Candidates must meet the Qualification Standards Handbook requirements for the GS-1010-11. For this position, candidates must possess at least one year of specialized experience, equivalent in responsibility to the federal GS-9 level, maintaining, fixing, installing and inspecting lighting equipment in museums.

Other Relevant Eligibility Criteria: Requires sufficient manual dexterity to work safely with power and hand tools. Experience reading electrical drawings and diagrams.  Must be able to work at heights up to 60’.  Must be able to work on scaffolds and personnel lifts.  Must be able to climb a ladder.  Must be able to lift and carry 50 lbs.  Requires periodic availability to work more than a 40-hour work week.  Must be able to work indoors and outdoors.  Must be able to stand, stoop, bend, kneel, climb and work in tiring and uncomfortable positions.
Must possess visual acuity sufficient to create accurate, color matched digital output. Must be able to climb a ladder. Must be able to lift and carry 15 pounds. Must be able to work occasional weekend and evening overtime hours.

1. Exhibition Lighting – Skill in maintaining, fixing, installing, and inspecting lighting equipment.
2. General Electrical Work – Planning out and working on circuits and systems that enable the exhibitions to “shine.”

Education
Undergraduate and Graduate Education: Major study -- illustrative design, commercial art, fine arts, industrial design, architecture, drafting, interior design, or other fields related to the position.
Advanced training in a vocational school, technical institute, or art institute above the high school level in one of the fields listed above is creditable as general experience on a month-for-month basis.

General Experience (for GS-5 positions): Experience that demonstrated the skills and creativity needed to use the tools or equipment associated with the work. Because talent and creative ability are vital to successful work performance, samples of work or other suitable evidence of technical competence may be required. Unpaid experience that is pertinent should be credited based upon its relevance to the work of the particular position to be filled.
Examples of qualifying general experience include: design and construction of exhibits, posters, photographic displays, signs, or displays of art or technical equipment; preparation or mounting of museum specimens; wood carving, sculpting, illustrating, interior or industrial design; or the use of tools and techniques related to carpentry, plastics, sheet metal, electrical or electronics work, machining, painting, molding, or in making machines, apparatus, and instruments.
Specialized Experience (for positions above GS-5): Experience in the actual type of work for which application is made. Unpaid experience is creditable, provided the work done was of a quality level and demonstrated the ability required for the position. This includes work in the appropriate field, e.g., design, modelmaking, art, taxidermy, or restoration.
