Job Overview & Purpose 

The Financial accountant is responsible for the provision of accurate and timely financial activities, management and statutory reporting in line with local and international accounting standards to support the Finance function. This role will be responsible for measuring and improving adherence of the local business to the global accounting policies and controls. This will be achieved through developing and implementing work instructions which will enable scale and efficiency in accordance with Cochlear’s policies and processes.

Accountabilities 

Accountability 1: Financial Statement Management [GL, P&L, Balance sheet, cash flow statement]: Timely and accurate accounting and Financial Reporting

  • Maintain Accounts in accordance with local and international accounting policies
  • Monitor and review accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness.
  • Ensure timely completion of GL reconciliations, detailed review of reconciling items and prompt clearance. 
  • Identify all risks and opportunities on the balance sheet and bring up for discussion with proposed solutions
  • Establish, maintain, and coordinate the implementation of accounting and accounting control procedures.

Accountability 2: Order to Cash (OTC)

  • Responsible for receivables ledger for Japan
  • Review new customer account set up for appropriate credit and country limits according to the APAC credit management policy.
  • Oversee Accounts Receivable reconciliation and ensuring seamless control of outstanding Accounts Receivable collection, including timely communication with relevant dealers and debtors and escalating as needed
  • Manage receivable bank, credit card and cheque payments and allocation in Oracle Accounts Receivable.
  • Perform debt collection tasks to liaising closely with the customer and all internal parties to resolve issues and reducing overdue debt.
  • Manage credit holds up to the threshold amount and communicate with customers and proactive management orders on credit hold.
  • Process any credit card refunds due to customer
  • Provide monthly review of customer account status and analysis of overdue debt and updated reasons for non-collection to the Regional Accounts Receivable Team Lead and sales management

Accountability 3: Procure to Pay

  • Accountable for the effective operation of iProcurment Policy
  • Post supplier invoices in Oracle, with the right analytic codes (Department, Activity, Territory), and the right statutory account codes, after receiving ad-hoc authorization
  • Enter supplier payments in the system
  • Deal with suppliers’ questions/concerns
  • Audit and book i-expenses, following Cochlear policy
  • Prepare monthly payroll and other benefit payments

Accountability 4: Tax and Audit Handling

  • Prepare necessary information to file tax application, working closely with KPMG.
  • Work with Finance Director or other professionals and handle issues/challenges
  • Prepare for internal/external audit including tax audit and actively work on mitigations and timely improvements based on findings.

Accountability 5: Internal Control support

Support Director, Finance & Operations for ensuring internal controls, checks and balances for business processes are effectively monitored and adapted.

Team Role 

Individual contributor: 

  • Follow relevant quality procedures to deliver quality products and services and identify and support the implementation of continuous improvement. Undertake additional quality responsibilities (e.g., audit) when appropriately trained to undertake these responsibilities.

  • Contribute ideas on systems and process methods to improve deliverables. 

  • Work safely, complying with all safety procedures, rules, and instructions; and reporting workplace hazards, incidents, or injuries to manager. 

Minimum Key Incumbent Requirements 

Required Skills

• 3+ years post qualification experience

• Experience working in a multi-national organization

• Knowledge of the accounting, financial analysis and finance disciplines (Boki 2nd grade or more)

• Written and spoken English to a high standard

• Experience with Financial Accounting Software, Microsoft Office

  • Experience of tax filing
  • Experience in medical industries

  •  Japanese - Native level

• 3+ years post qualification experience
