Introduction
We are looking for talented Content Designers (Technical Writers) to help make a meaningful impact on how our clients use our products by delivering a delightful content experience. You'll do this by participating in design research to understand user needs to frame content proposals that best support users at the right time and in the right context. You'll design and develop technical product content, both inside and outside of the user interface (UI), with a focus on clarity, accuracy, and other characteristics of quality information. The team you'll be joining is part of the worldwide Software design organization - a part of IBM that is collectively responsible for software products focused on AI-enabled solutions that assist our customers make more informed and data-driven decisions about how to manage their business and services.

Your Role and Responsibilities

  • Drive a cohesive end-to-end content experience that moves clients through every phase of their product journey and drives their actions.
  • Own the end-to-end authoring process: design, development, editing, production, translation, and life cycle management
  • Propose product design and process improvements, coordinate, and execute content development and user experience strategy.
  • Evaluate content requests and work with stakeholders, such as Product Owners, Engineering, Marketing, and Design, to understand the business problem, goals, and outcomes.
  • Design, develop, and publish IBM technical content (e.g. embedded in the UI, product tours, messages, product & API documentation, multimedia) that is easy to use, easy to understand, and easy to find. This may also include guided tours as well as training, nurture, and community content.
  • Simplify technically complex concepts and details from multiple sources into consumable content that drives user actions.
  • Deliver clear, inclusive, accessible, and translated content for a global audience adhering to content design practices
  • Research and design content based on user scenarios and use cases by understanding personas, delivering content for design iterations, developing and clarifying UI terms, actively contributing to design reviews and conducting user testing/research to validate content.
  • Collaborate directly with your Design team, Product Management, Development, Marketing, Support, Sales and Training to tell a cohesive product story.
  • Use expertise and user empathy to influence product design decisions to deliver the best user experiences we can for our customers.
This internship lasts for 12 months and starts in January 2025.

Required Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Command of U.S. English writing, curating, and editing content for accuracy, clarity, and usability
  • Modeling and formatting content into viable, feasible, and desirable solutions.
  • Proven experience simplifying complex content for users.
  • Researching and studying a subject and its context to inform content.
  • Demonstrated ability to evaluate and design for the interactions between language and design elements to construct a logical, compelling narrative throughout user/client journey.
  • Can define and apply consistent voice and tone throughout a content journey.
  • Knowledge of markup languages (such as DITA XML, Markdown, HTML) and authoring tools (Oxygen).
  • Experience with Content Management Systems
  • Experience documenting detailed technical content such as APIs and SDKs.
  • Foundational understanding of UX design and design research.
  • Proven communication skills (written and verbal).
  • Samples of previous work welcomed
  • An awesome and positive attitude.

Preferred Technical and Professional Expertise

  • Experience working in an agile, squad-based, continuous delivery development model.
  • Able to work independently, with a strong sense of responsibility and commitment to a dynamic, team based environment.
  • Experience with video creation software and digital adoption platforms, such as Camtasia and Walkme.
  • Degree in Writing, English, Journalism, Communication, Information Design, or related field, or a technical degree.
