Java Engineering Manager

What's the role?

In this role you will innovate and develop machine learning and data analytics solutions to build our industry-leading map. You will collaborate with an energetic and dedicated team that works on cutting-edge technology to create tools and services. You will work with researchers, developers, architects and IT to develop, deploy, and maintain applications in multiple environments. In addition you will:

• As a technical leader and an effective people manager you can hold your own in a technical discussion, be a subject matter expert, and have strategic influence
• Collaborate with Internal and external customer and stakeholders for understanding the Business processes and solution implementations for the acceptance criteria. 
• Perform Technical architectural design and review. 
• Spend time and effort hiring top talent, coaching and developing people to bring out best. 
• Follow a documented software development process and be accountable for conformance to software quality standards.  
• Work collaboratively with other engineering teams to ensure cross-functional goals are met. 
• Participate in architecture and design discussions and reviews. 
• Participate in cross-team strategy discussions within the team 
• Enable the team to execute high-velocity software development, support their needs and resolve possibleconflicts 
• Communicate with leadership regarding progress against plans, issues, and needs. 
• Work with users and/or product owners to help define application specifications 
• Lead the team to follow organizational standards engineering best practice

Who are you?

You are Engineering Manager with passion for innovation and technology. Further you have the following: 

• A bachelor's or master’s degree in Computer Science or related field
• 12 to 18 years of overall work experience in software engineering including 3+ years of technical leadership and people management experience 
• Strong experience in backend application development – Java or functional programming language, like Scala. 
• Practical experience in hiring, mentoring, and developing engineers 
• Cloud Experience (AWS/Azure/IBM/Oracle)
• Experience in development of Service oriented architecture, Spring framework and web services 
• Experience in data structures and algorithms  
• Infrastructure experience: Maven/SBT, GIT/GERRIT, Apache Spark, Amazon Web Services, Jenkins, Linux Environment 
• Experience building REST web service clients and servers. 
• Experience in large scale data processing leveraging frameworks like Hadoop, Map/Reduce etc. 
• Experience of persistence with relational and NoSQL data stores. 
• Solid knowledge of design patterns and engineering best practices

In this role you will be part of Source Fusion team in the Foundation Engineering Development Group. You will work within an engineering team that works closely with Data Scientists to develop Data extraction, Data visualization, Data labelling and Data validation software with a focus on continuous delivery. In this team, you will have opportunity to work on full stack development technologies and is an excellent opportunity to work with an energetic and dedicated team of software engineers and computer vision/machine learning experts on highly visible, technology-driven problems with a direct connection to the success of the company.
