Lead Engineer - Discovery

At Outside, we’re bringing our inspiring content and our empowering tools to a large audience across 30+ platforms and domains. As a Tech Lead on the Discovery team, you’ll be working across our product landscape in order to address the many problems that arise as a recommendation platform. This can include but is not limited to: understanding other team’s datasets, building observability pipelines across disparate toolsets, developing new services to ingest & process data, and, updating our recommendation system to receive new data points.

What you will do:

• Manage a small team of mid-level engineers within your discipline and team
• Team up with your Data Science & Staff Engineer partners to implement engineering solutions according to product briefs
• Review Github PRs, create & contribute to, and review technical designs, and create software that supports the day to day business of Outside and it’s many brands
• Work with engineering, product management, product design to collaboratively create & maintain our local newsletter product
• Mentor team members on development best practices and provide guidance on building crossteam projects
• Develop monitoring strategies with tools such as Datadog and Sentry
• Streamline the development process within the team

This describes you:

• You have 5+ years of software development experience
• You have 2+ years of experience with REST and GraphQL APIs
• You have professional experience with Javascript or Python 
• You lead with curiosity & collaboration within technical and personnel domains
• You’re a collaborative colleague who celebrates the success of your team

Nice to have:

• Experience supporting and working with datasets from different domains
• Experience mentoring engineers informally or formally
• Experience with ESPs such as Cordial or Hubspot

Entirely remote jobs that could be performed in Colorado: Employees can expect to be paid a salary between $140,000 to $160,000. Additional benefits include health care, vision, dental, retirement, Flexible Time Away, sick leave, and more.
