Job Description
MultiThreaded Engineering, UX and Design at Stitch Fix
At Stitch Fix, our goal is to help our customers look great and feel great about themselves by revolutionizing how people shop. In a time-starved world where shopping often feels overwhelming, our business connects customers to clothes they love. Whether it’s helping someone dress for success at a new job or taking the stress out of packing for a family vacation, we fix clients’ closets – and they love us for it!
We’ve built unique, innovative software for merchandising, warehouse and inventory management, remote styling, and logistics. We leverage vast amounts of client data to make decisions throughout the company. All of this results in a simple, powerful offering to our clients and a very successful business. We believe we are only scratching the surface of our opportunity, and we’re looking for incredible people to contribute.
About the RoleStitch Fix’s Client API team is looking for an experienced engineer to help design and build the next generation of API tooling and infrastructure for our evolving audience of engineers. We strive to enable our product development teams so that they can focus on the most pressing product problems instead of fighting with infrastructure. We accomplish this by building infrastructure and tooling that enables teams to easily and safely build APIs with autonomy. We’re motivated by our ability to help our engineering partners continue delivering value and providing an enjoyable experience for our consumers.
You will work as a valuable member of the engineering team building key API infrastructure supporting customer- and internal-facing systems across the company. You will spend your time helping guide solutions to problems that face us as we continue to grow and scale the business.Â
This is a remote position available within the United States. We operate in an agile-inspired manner; collaborating across multiple time zones. We build modern software with modern techniques like TDD, continuous delivery, DevOps, and service-oriented architecture. We focus on high-value products that solve clearly identified problems but are designed in a sustainable way and deliver long-term value.Â
You’re excited about this opportunity because you will…- Help design, develop, and continue to grow infrastructure and tooling that directly supports product development teams.
- Have a significant impact on the API offerings at Stitch Fix by helping define standards, best practices, and performance targets for our GraphQL API.
- Be an owner of highly visible, high-impact, cross-team projects.
- Collaborate with stakeholders while leading the technical discovery, decision-making, and execution of complex and/or critical projects within the team.Â
- Operate as an engaged member of the engineering team - leading meetings, attending ceremonies, providing input on technical design documents & project plans, pairing with other engineers to work toward a solution, etc.Â
- Proactively communicate status updates or changes to the scope or timeline of projects to stakeholders and leadership.Â
- Share the responsibility of directing the team’s investment in impactful directions.
- Contribute to a culture of technical collaboration and scalable, resilient systems.
- Work within a distributed team of software engineers and cross-functional partners who are passionate about their craft.
- Have high responsibility for deliverables and will be helping to guide what you work on.
- You have roughly 6+ years of professional programming experience.
- You get excited about solving hard problems in GraphQL, RPC or other technologies
- You’re excited about building and evangelizing federated GraphQL APIs across a diverse organization.
- You have hands-on experience with Ruby, Rails, and GraphQL schema design.Â
- You have experience independently leading cross-team projects & initiatives.Â
- You have strong written communication skills and are able to develop strong working relationships with coworkers and business partners.Â
- You have 1+ years of experience in technical leadership - including driving technical decisions and guiding broader project goals.
- You are bright, kind, and motivated by challenges.
- You have excellent analytical skills as well as communication skills both verbal and written.Â
- You treasure helping your team members grow and learn.
- You take initiative and operate with accountability.Â
- You believe that strong teams are built on trust.
- You understand and focus on what is right for the customer.
- You build high-quality solutions and are pragmatic about weighing project scope and value.
- You are flexible, dedicated to your craft, and curious.
- You might have prior experience with accessibility best practices.
