This opportunity is accountable for managing the delivery of all build artefacts effectively to ensure quality outputs. Provide technical leadership in design, development and deployment of QBE's platforms.
Primary Responsibilities • Ensure consulting services and project focus is on delivering support to IT strategic objectives• Strategic objectives understood and supported• Working with the business and IT to develop plans and strategies in alignment with the strategic direction.• Work with the Principal technologists on upgrading the IT infrastructure to latest versions so the QBE has the latest and greatest of the technology infrastructure• Working with the demand and supply to develop work and resource forecasts for the applications delivery support• Manage the continuous improvement of development processes and methodologies• Handle more complex issues and risks as required and escalate if necessary• SDLC and associated methodologies followed• Development processes undergo continuous improvements• Issues resolved or escalated in a timely manner in alignment with SLA• Ensure customer impacts are assessed and addressed in the design and delivery of solutions• Deliver solutions meeting customers' needs, e.g., eBusiness, online tools• Effectively handover application changes and enhancements and provide support as required• Proactively build and maintain strong and effective working relationships with key stakeholders• Produce the design and review the design of the other senior members of the team. Perform quality reviews and lead the end to end implementation of a solution.• Perform more complex development activities which may be beyond the competency or skill of a senior software engineer• Analyse business requirements, design and implement solutions• Complete impact analysis and ensure quality checks are performed• Perform implementation, handover and support activities as required.• Define the best practices in the designated technology area.• Estimate effort for activities, reporting on progress and managing all activities within agreed budget• Identify, communicate and manage risks and issues as they arise• Accuracy and timeliness of output• Minimal rework required during UAT or post implementation• Test activities completed to the required level of quality, within the scheduled amount of time and to the agreed budget• Implementation is achieved according to project plan• Accuracy and timeliness of reporting• Risks identified and mitigated in a timely manner• Estimating the effort for activities, report on progress and manage all activities within the agreed budgets• Perform leadership activities including performance management, mentoring and staff development• Objectives aligned to business goals• Teams are adequately skilled• Depth of technical abilities within the team at desirable levels
Required Education
• Bachelor's Degree or equivalent combination of education and work experience
Required Experience • 8 years relevant experience
Preferred Competencies/Skills • Hands on development on client server and n-tier systems• Analytical and problem-solving skills• Coaching and mentoring skills
Preferred Experience • Experience within financial services
Preferred Knowledge • Broad knowledge of software development life cycle processes• Expertise in technical and/or business area• Knowledge on OOPS concepts• knowledge on CI/CD implementation• Knowledge on Agile

US Only - Physical Demands • General office jobs: Work is generally performed in an office environment in which there is not substantial exposure to adverse environmental conditions. Must have the ability to remain in a stationary position for extended periods of time. Must be able to operate basic office equipment including telephone, headset and computer. Incumbent must be able to lift basic office equipment up to 20 lbs.
