Lead Systems Engineer
As the Lead Systems Engineer, you will be the technical engineering leader for one of Allegion's new electro-mechanical door devices, locks, or access control systems for the Residential or Commercial environments. In this role, you will lead a team of cross-functional product development engineers and be responsible for overall product definition, architecture development, and system integration activities that span software, firmware, electrical, and mechanical design components. You will be primarily focused on product development and product life cycle activities within the residential and commercial cloud connected space.
What You Will Do:
- Work with business leaders to define product requirements that meet customer, marketing, and internal stakeholder needs
- Work directly with the project manager to plan and communicate budget, resources, and schedule throughout the program
- Coordinate creation of engineering development timelines and track development activities to meet delivery and cost commitments
- Lead Risk Management for engineering deliverables
- Lead Technical Design Reviews at all product development process milestones highlighting engineering progress, issues, and risks
- Present design trade-offs as necessary to ensure the highest level of product performance and quality when considering product cost, manufacturability, and available technologies
- Ensure designs meet product requirements (functional, cost, quality, reliability, etc.) and that requirement risks are evaluated and mitigated early in the process
- Lead problem-solving activities utilizing the appropriate tools, such as fault-tree analysis, 5-why analysis, and fishbone diagrams to get to the root cause
- Be the technical contact for key customers and OEM partners as new products are introduced into the marketplace
- Provide clear communications to technical team members as well as to other leaders and managers
What You Need to Succeed:
- BS in Electrical Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Mechatronics, Software Engineering, or related field
- At least 8 years' experience in access control, consumer products, automotive, aerospace, medical, or IoT devices
- You have demonstrated experience or strong familiarity in Systems Engineering processes including design by requirements, traceability, and verification and validation
- You bring experience in engineering product design from concept to production
- You have familiarity with Agile Frameworks
- You can lead project teams to deliver complex programs and bring strong engineering project management skills
- You are a skilled practitioner of Failure Mode Effects and Analysis and can lead a team through planning and execution as well as mentor early career stage engineers
- You're a creative thinker with high initiative and high achievement goals
- You can provide technical coaching and mentoring
- In addition, you ideally have knowledge of cybersecurity methods and protocols, experience with cloud service architectures (AWS, Azure) and low-power wireless communications products (WiFi, Bluetooth LE, Zigbee, ZWave, etc), and mobile apps.
- Travel requirements: 10%
