Reporting to the Head of Navigators Wholesale Primary Casualty, the Managing Director's primary focus is on growing and sustaining a profitable book of new (and renewal) general liability business in the Wrap/Projects Specific product class. This is an E&S book of business distributed exclusively through contracted Wholesale brokers. The Managing Directory will take an active role in strategic planning with management to develop and implement an underwriting strategy that identifies profitable market opportunities and new product development. He/she will manage a team of underwriters and is expected to be an individual contributor towards the product class' GWP goals.

Responsibilities:
• Recommend objectives and plans to achieve growth and financial profitability for segment products.
• Responsible for leading and developing a team of underwriters.
• Can think strategically and apply the unit's business strategy towards the success of the product class.
• Takes an active role in developing assigned product class for primary casualty business, builds on existing broker relationships to increase production sources and identify profitable market opportunities
• Analyzes submissions to make decisions based on individual risk characteristics, exposure analysis, hazard recognition and controls.
• Will price business according to Company underwriting and pricing guidelines.
• Ability to use creativity and underwriting knowledge to write risks and retain business.
• Communicates effectively and persuasively with agents/brokers on underwriting issues including, but not limited to, decisions on cancellations, declinations, exposure concerns, and coverage approaches.
• Interfaces effectively with other business units within the Company, including operations, claims & actuarial, to improve overall results and profitability.
• Maintain and develop new relationships with brokers and reinsurers where needed
• Ensure the use of best practices and compliance with all Company practices and policies.
• Promotes the Company's products and services by actively seeking opportunities to speak at broker or insurance-related groups, and by networking within the insurance community to stay abreast of changes within the industry.
• Demonstrates the ability to understand corporate protocols and procedures and will guide the underwriting team accordingly.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
• 10+ years of experience in underwriting, marketing, and producer management with an emphasis in primary casualty
• Experience with all aspects of construction risks including practice and project policies is highly desirable.
• Extensive relationships with wholesale brokers
• Entrepreneurial; ability to work in a fast pace environment
• Prior experience managing a team is preferred
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills
• High energy and positive demeanor
• BS/BA degree required; Master's degree and/or insurance designation a plus.
• Ability to travel as needed.
Location:
This position may be based in Atlanta, Chicago, Dallas, Houston, Los Angeles, New Jersey, New York, or San Francisco areas.
Compensation
The listed annualized base pay range is primarily based on analysis of similar positions in the external market. Actual base pay could vary and may be above or below the listed range based on factors including but not limited to performance, proficiency and demonstration of competencies required for the role. The base pay is just one component of The Hartford's total compensation package for employees. Other rewards may include short-term or annual bonuses, long-term incentives, and on-the-spot recognition. The annualized base pay range for this role is:
$165,280 - $247,920
