Job Purpose:

The Manufacturing Excellence Manager will drive continuous improvement initiatives across Diageo's manufacturing operations. This role is pivotal in fostering a culture of operational excellence, ensuring the highest standards of productivity, quality, and efficiency are maintained. The Manufacturing Excellence Manager will:
  • Lead/facilitate the senior leadership team in their implementation of the Manufacturing Management Systems (MMS) change journey, facilitating improvement in performance, standards, and capability through the MMS change journey. Manage Process Capability and Training & Development Teams delivery of MMS training.
  • Use and analyse data effectively to define and deliver improvement opportunities across the site
  • Provide MMS subject matter expertise, offering strategic guidance at all Tiers and contributing to the Diageo Amherstburg change programme
  • Lead Site management to ensure consistency of approach and alignment of Diageo strategy with Site
  • Lead and advocate good governance around internal and external compliance (health & safety, quality and environment)
  • Builds a strong working relationship with Site Operation Managers and Asset Care Manager
  • Advocate of asset care agenda
  • Delivery of outstanding performance in all aspects of the balanced scorecard (Safety, Quality, Environment, Asset Care, Delivery, Productivity, Cost and Morale)

Key Accountabilities
  • Develop and drive the implementation of the site plan at site and departmental level.
  • Lead team of Manufacturing Excellence facilitators to support departments in implementing MMS practices.
  • Drive site senior leadership team to follow the MMS process to ensure that practices and performance are embedded through sustainable, balanced deployment of the MMS tool set.
  • Coach managers at all levels to implement MMS methodologies to deliver highly reliable, high quality, safe and cost-effective results.
  • Work to maintain alignment between all parts of the site's supply chain by coordinating all departments to work together in MMS deployment.
  • Provides guidance and support to the Site Steering Committee for effective and aligned implementation of MMS.
  • As part of the Site Steering Committee, coaches managers to develop teams at all levels to produce performance results through the MMS practices
  • As part of the site senior leadership team sets clear improvement strategy for the site with clear objectives and owns the change management processes.
  • Provides loss & waste leadership and coaching to operational teams.
  • Understand the value chain implications of site/department/line issues. Provide 'end to end' analysis.
  • Participate in and lead as required improvement projects using the DMAIC methodology.
  • Participates fully and constructively at the Daily Operations Review (DOR) meetings to provide analysis of performance improvement opportunities.
  • Ensures effective implementation of MMS training and development programmes and communications.
Qualifications & Experience:
  • 4 year Bachelor's degree or equivalent (preferably in Engineering, Manufacturing, Operations Management, or related field)
  • Experience implementing successful continuous improvement initiatives.
  • At least 5 years leadership experience and a great track record in a best in class FMCG manufacturing environment
  • Proactive structured problem evaluation & solving skills learnt through exposure to Lean, Six Sigma, TPM or Manufacturing Excellence. Certified Lean Six Sigma Black Belt preferred.
  • Strong understanding of packaging, processing & plant technologies
  • Champion of manufacturing excellence leadership, management, tools & techniques
  • Ability to build a high-performance climate within large multi-disciplined teams by effectively setting performance standards and coaching and developing others to achieve them.
  • Great coaching with strong engagement skills
  • Financially savvy
  • Proficient in use of standard business (MS Office) and Diageo packages
  • Has led significant business change through people in a production led environment
  • SAP (or MRP systems), Planned Maintenance, Environmental and Quality systems.
  • Good knowledge of Environmental and safety legislation and standards including OHSA
