Job Description

SUMMARY: The Network Operations Engineer III is expected to have a broad level of knowledge of network enterprise technologies, platforms and principles, to include: route/switch protocols, wireless networking, datacenter, high-availability design, Cloud Networking Technologies including Web Application Firewall (WAF) , Domain Name Service (DNS) and IP management, Content Delivery Network, and Network Monitoring. The Network Operations Engineer Role will preferably have experience with one or more network automation tools and/or programming languages. He / she leads, facilitates and assists junior engineers with developing strategic operational support for next generation network services and emerging transport methods and will work close with the Cloud Network Architecture Team. Makes well thought out decisions on moderate to complex network engineering issues. Engineers, develops and tests infrastructure. The individual will also be responsible for assisting in the definition of monitoring and trending scenarios for the operational teams to increase efficiencies. Will assist in driving complex modifications and/or upgrades to existing network infrastructure in support of evolving enterprise requirements. Is vigilant on unit cost reduction and cost containment. Acts as a source of direction, training and guidance for less experienced team members. Monitors project schedules and unit/total costs. Provides escalation support as required. Must be able to communicate effectively with both management and technical staff. Must have strong problem-solving skills under minimal direction.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES include the following. Other duties and special projects may be assigned.

  • Serves as the principal operational engineer and often implementation engineer for most enterprise network projects and/or small work efforts
  • Perform network maintenance including software upgrades, migrations, decommissioning, and capacity upgrades
  • Management of 3rd party network, security, circuit, and managed service providers (MSP) to ensure optimization of delivery and partnership engagement
  • Automate select network administration tasks through creation and maintenance of scripts and tools
  • Conduct research on network products, services, protocols, and standards to remain abreast of developments in the networking industry
  • Assist in leading the network operational team and manage daily activities
  • Coordinate with cross functional groups to ensure project timeline and customer service deliverables are met
  • Look for opportunities to improve the network stability performance and management including coordination with SRE engineers to increase application and supporting network resiliency
  • Maintain accurate and current documentation of the cloud and enterprise network environments
  • Interact with application and other infrastructure personnel to develop and support secure, network aware applications
  • Generate and communicate monthly reports KPI metrics
  • Contribute towards the continued development of the Bank's overall business continuity plan
  • Detail oriented with strong troubleshooting and analytical skills
  • Provide day to day direction and administrative management to the resources responsible for WAN, LAN, Telecom and specialized project management functions
  • Proficient with planning, scheduling, conducting, and coordinating detailed design phases of engineering projects
  • Provide network escalation support for critical and complex network issues
  • Dive Deep on the high severity incidents and participate in root cause analysis
  • Identify and dive deep on recurring issues and recommend preventative solutions
  • Support in organizational transformation from reactive to proactive with focus on predictiveness
  • Troubleshoot networking, routing and interconnectivity issues, including troubleshooting of network device configuration and low-level application interaction
  • Complete customer requests via trouble ticketing system
  • Monitor and manage technical communications during large-scale events
  • Follow the existing change policies and create, review and execute complex changes
  • Drive standards across the network and ensure that we are fully compliant to those standards and policies
  • SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES: Supervises functions, projects or services and/or one or more employees, as applicable
  • Adheres to and complies with applicable, federal and state laws, regulations and guidance, including those related to anti-money laundering (i.e. Bank Secrecy Act, US PATRIOT Act, etc.).
  • Adheres to Bank policies and procedures and completes required training.
  • Identifies and reports suspicious activity.

EDUCATION

Bachelor's degree in IT related or 5 to 7 years of enterprise networking for medium to large organization(s). Industry related certifications ie Cisco CCNP or higher and or equivalent

EXPERIENCE

  • 5+ years
    • as a network engineer working in a network environment, preferably with Cisco and SD-WAN technologies, and various firewall vendor-based hardware
    • common protocols and concepts like TCP/IP, UDP, DNS, DHCP, IPv6 required
    • network troubleshooting tools such as Wireshark and tcpdump required

  • 4+ years
    • routing Protocols BGP, EIGRP Route Redistribution required
    • Cisco core routing and switch equipment (eg Cisco Catalyst and Cisco Nexus Switches) required

  • 3+ years
    • hardware based Firewall technologies and the ability to generate basic rule sets required
    • VPN/tunneling technologies such as DMVPN, VTI, IPsec and SSL client VPN's preferred

  • 1 - 3 years
    • firewall, VPN, remote access technologies required
    • network performance, configuration and operational monitoring applications required
    • virtual firewall technologies and centralized management experience required
    • multi-cloud networking design w/ focus on AWS and Azure required
    • network diagraming software required
    • cloud networking in a production environment preferred
    • global WAF and load balancing services such as CloudFlare and Akamai a plus preferred
    • AWS multi-region network resiliency design preferred
    • AWS Route 53 and Azure DNS a plus preferred
    • Ansible for configuration management of deployed virtual assets preferred
    • Terraform for IaC (infrastructure as code) and automated deployment of cloud network assets preferred
    • Equinix Fabric network services a plus preferred
    • wireless technologies including Operational Support and Design preferred
    • low voltage wiring, Fiber optics, familiar with EIA-TIA 568 standards preferred
    • deploying and building out new locations, circuit ordering provisioning preferred
    • NAC technologies preferred

  • 1-2 years
    • IT related support contracts preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES

  • Knowledge of network analysis fundamentals and robust troubleshooting skills
  • Understanding of basic financials and the costs associated with delivering technology solutions and subsequently engineer solutions that align with a financial business model
  • Excellent communication skills, the ability to work well in a team, strong customer focus, and ownership

  • Certifications relevant to AWS and cloud technologies (Solutions Architect, SysOps Administrator, DevOps Engineer) preferred
