One hot summer day in 2006, Andy and Charlie Nelson were driving with their dad to a butcher shop in Greenbrier, TN, when they noticed a historic marker for Nelson's Greenbrier Distillery. The brothers had heard the family lore about a whiskey business (think sunken ships, lost gold, Tennessee's oldest whiskey and a woman-run distillery before women could vote), but nobody knew the real story. They asked the butcher if he'd ever heard of the distillery. He pointed right across the street and then introduced them to the town's historian who showed them two original bottles of Nelson's Green Brier Tennessee Whiskey. At that moment, Charlie and Andy knew: "This is our destiny."

After years of research, planning, and hearing "no" an awful lot, Charlie and Andy Nelson decided to make the leap on their own and craft a whiskey to bring back the business started by their triple great grandfather. In 2012, the Nelson's resurrected Belle Meade Bourbon and attracted the attention of Constellation Brands, which took a minority stake in the distillery in 2016 and a majority stake three years later. Nelson's Green Brier came full circle in the fall of 2019 when they reintroduced their family's renowned Tennessee Whiskey after a 100-year absence.

The entire Nelson team is thrilled to grow the business once again with the opening of a restaurant and bar to reflect the rich history and quality that NGBD is known for and solidify its spot as a leading hospitality destination in Nashville.

Position Summary

Nelson's Green Brier Distillery is looking to add a talented and knowledgeable bartender to the team for the opening of our new bar and restaurant. The ideal candidate is professional, charismatic, a great communicator, and experienced in classic and craft cocktails. Bartenders will greet guests, educate on NGBD's product, interact and make suggestions regarding guests' preferences, as well as prepare and serve beverages and deliver food. Our bartenders are responsible for serving bar patrons as well as preparing drink orders for the dining room and at times serving tables within the bar area. A successful bartender at NGBD is a punctual self-starter, keeps a neat appearance, is engaging and friendly and has an observant, team-oriented, efficient work ethic. Responsibilities

• Interact with customers, take food and drink orders
• Stay guest focused and nurture an excellent guest experience through thoughtful suggestions and honest salesmanship
• Comply with all food and beverage regulations for the State of TN
• Prepare beverages (alcoholic and non-alcoholic) for bar and restaurant patrons
• Check guests' identification and confirm it meets TN's drinking requirements
• Restock and replenish bar inventory and supplies before and after each shift
• Assess customers' needs and preferences and make recommendations
• Mix ingredients to prepare cocktails to NGBD's specifications
• Memorize cocktail builds for efficient and timely service
• Maintain uncompromised professionalism and composure at all times and in all situations
• Share a passion for NGBD products and culture
• Educate guests on whiskey through detailed knowledge of Nelson's products and distillation process as well as extensive understanding of cocktails
• In a genuine fashion, educate guests about the history of NGBD, our whiskey, our love for music and our food
• Ensure guest expectations are being met by executing proper sequence of service, moving with purpose, confidence, and efficiency at all times
• Complete set-up, side work, and closing tasks as assigned and/or directed in a timely manner
• Work closely with Lead Supervisor to ensure all tasks are being completed thoroughly, correctly, and efficiently during the shift

Minimum Qualifications

• 2+ years mixing for a hand-crafted cocktail program
• 1-2 years of experience in cocktail creation
• Have or obtain any certifications or permits required for handling or serving food and alcohol in Davidson County
• Detail oriented, creative and quality focused
• Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks and meet deadlines; yet able to work productively as part of a team
• Clear value for the importance of internal hospitality and the necessary team environment this promotes
• Able to recite, prepare and differentiate between the basic classic cocktails
• Able to work evenings, weekends, and holidays as needed (must have flexible schedule)
• Effective communication skills and ability to maintain composure in high stress environment
• Commitment to delivering an outstanding customer service experience

Preferred Qualifications

• General knowledge and enthusiasm for craft distilling and spirits
• Experience in restaurants, and a desire for upward mobility and cross training

Physical Requirements/Work Environment

• Works outdoors/indoors
• Works in warm/cold climates
• Works in high places
• Works on wet surfaces
• Is exposed to loud noise, fumes and/or toxic chemicals
• Works near moving, mechanical parts and lift truck traffic
• Must be able to move up to 55 lbs
