Developing new features and scientific models for this infrastructure presents many technical challenges in distributed computing, storage systems, and high-performance computing. Our amazing team of Engineers, Product Managers, and Architects work on next-generation innovative experiences transforming how users connect every day. As part of this team, you get to work on various features that directly impact properties like Yahoo Sports, Yahoo Finance, Yahoo News, and Yahoo Homepage. The team plays a critical part in the media and content personalization platform that powers all the critical components of Yahoo's Media Business. The features that are built are directly responsible for billions of impressions and millions of clicks.
A Lot About You:
You have professional experience in highly scalable, distributed, low latency online serving systems. You are someone who is motivated by our mission and wants to ensure that our media platform plays a critical role in improving the experience of our users. You are passionate about solving technical problems, from the network to the user experience. You want to make web applications and middleware systems faster, more reliable, and more efficient; think outside the box to build tools and systems that allow faster and easier to create experiences and launch, with low latency and high-performing runtime. The ideal candidate will have industry experience working on various online user products.
Responsibilities:
Engineering ownership in a complex backend system, including new feature work, improvements on existing code, debugging and investigation of user issues, participation in code reviews, and designing and shipping the product. Contribute to standard methodologies and the culture of the team. Collaborate with Product Managers to ideate technical solutions.
Qualifications:

• BS/MS in Computer Science (or equivalent)
• Experience designing and developing system/middleware software products
• Experience communicating with users, other technical teams, and senior management to collect requirements and describe software product features, technical designs, and product strategy.
• 10+ years of experience in software engineering with solid programming knowledge and hands-on experience
• Experience with Java and related technologies like Spring, Junit, JAX-RS/Jersey, GRPC, Apache Storm, NoSql DB, Redis, etc.
• Experience with object-oriented programming concepts, event-driven programming, large-scale software architecture, networking,
• distributed systems, and UNIX/Linux environments
• Experience with Web technologies like REST APIs, JSON, NodeJS, etc
• Industry experience with Agile product development methodology is desirable.

Bonus / Nice to Have:

• Exposure to AI/ML
• Experience with large data processing and storage solutions like Storm, Spark, Hadoop Map/Reduce, Pig, Oozie, DynamoDB, and Cassandra.
• Experience working with search and real-time retrieval solutions like Vespa.ai, Elasticsearch, Apache Solr
