Principal Engineer

Title: Principal Engineer - Revenue & Retailer Integrations  

Location: Remote from the U.S. 

Reports to: VP of Engineering

You will have frequent communication with senior leadership in order to shape strategy and roadmap. You’ll nimbly switch between strategic and tactical initiatives to achieve technical, business, and customer experience goals. Ultimately, you'll be responsible for owning and driving initiatives across our software stack.You will be responsible for mentoring a team of engineers to deliver high-quality, scalable software solutions that meet business requirements and also take critical components themselves to design and deploy.

The ideal Principal Engineer for this space has a deep understanding of product catalogs, e-commerce and experience integrating with different e-commerce platforms in addition to retailers. You are highly quantitative, have great judgment and passion for delivering tremendous business value in an uncharted domain through a scalable system that anticipates significant growth across multiple dimensions. You’ll be inventive, and have a pragmatic and iterative approach to delivering high quality software. You’ll simplify and get things done, working effectively with engineering teams across the company.

Some problem spaces you'll be working on:

Links: Core to all LTK services and apps is being able to give the appropriate commissionable link to creators and consumers for the content they are viewing. The second is handling the click-time routing of that link from the consumer after they decide to move to purchase; making sure that all the appropriate attribution meta data is on the link at consumer scale and real time speed.

Product Catalog: We focus on maintaining an api that almost all LTK services and apps use to render product details for creators and consumers. We also manage the ingestion pipelines for the organization ingesting product, and in the future other data using Apache Kafka. The near-real time ingestion of data coupled with the ability to render that product data through LTK are both pivotal pieces of the LTK strategy going forward. 

How you will make an impact: 

• Own the (1) LTK Platform Consumer Conversion, (2) Building of our Product Catalog, and (3) Managing the creation of shoppable links.
• Bring a strong command of Golang, Python and Java, frameworks, and technologies relevant.
• Expertise in designing and building complex systems, architecture, and solutions. 
• Provide inputs on engineering and operational excellence and help complete critical engineering projects on time, within budget, and meet quality standards
• Identify and evaluate new technologies and tools to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of the engineering team.
• Demonstrate your ability to solve complex technical challenges, provide innovative solutions, and influence technical direction.
• Innovation: Create and maintain technical documentation, including architectural diagrams, design documents, and project plans.
• System Design: Design, develop and deploy software solutions that meet the needs of the business.
• Problem Ownership: Willingness to take ownership of complex issues, drive problem resolution, and act as a technical leader in crisis situations.

 Technical Skills:

• ​​Experience: more than 8 years demonstrating a deep understanding of distributed systems and software development principles, architecture, and best practices.
• Degree: A bachelor's or master's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or a related field is preferred, although relevant work experience can sometimes compensate for formal education.
• Design, develop and deploy software solutions that meet the needs of the business.
• Ensure that the engineering team adheres to coding standards, best practices, and compliance requirements.

Nice to have: 

• Data Storage: Expertise in working with various data storage technologies, including relational databases, NoSQL databases (like Hadoop HDFS, Apache Cassandra), and columnar databases.
• Data Processing: Strong understanding of data processing frameworks like Apache Spark, Apache Flink, Apache Beam, or Hadoop MapReduce. Experience in designing and optimizing data processing pipelines for performance and scalability is important.
• Streaming Data: Knowledge of stream processing frameworks like Apache Kafka or Apache Pulsar is valuable for handling real-time data streams.
• Cloud Platforms: Experience with cloud platforms like AWS, Azure, or Google Cloud Platform, and their big data services (e.g., Amazon EMR, Azure HDInsight, Google Cloud Dataproc).
• Containerization and Orchestration: Familiarity with containerization (Docker) and orchestration tools (Kubernetes) for deploying and managing big data applications.
• Data Modeling and ETL: Understanding of data modeling concepts and experience with Extract, Transform, Load (ETL) processes for transforming and moving data between systems.
• Optimization: Proficiency in optimizing big data applications for performance, throughput, and resource utilization.
