Job Description
POSITION: Process Engineer
REPORTS TO: Senior Process Engineer
PURPOSE
The Process Engineer is an integral part of the plant engineering team to ensure; Safety, Quality and delivery of products and processes within their assigned Value Stream/s from; Raw Materials to Finished Goods. The process engineer will be the subject matter expert for their value stream on site. They will be the lead technical person within the value stream and therefore accountable for leading all technical activities and driving improvements. The process engineer assumes full responsibility for; existing products/processes, New Product Development, Productivity and Reliability projects within their assigned value stream/s. Linked with the key strategic objectives; Safety Always, Quality Always, SFS and Operational Excellence (OpEx). The process engineer will directly interact with all internal functional departments including EH&S, Quality, Operations, Supply Chain, Product Managers and liaise with central SBD Engineering, and plant leadership team. The Process engineer will also be expected to coach and mentor the manufacturing technicians within their assigned value stream/s, with a dotted line of responsibility.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES
- Ensure strict adherence and compliance with corporate EH&S goals and objectives
- Leading NPD projects within the value stream ensuring all activities are completed within the project plan timeline.
- Develop CapEx projects linked to the design and installation of new plant equipment.
- Liaising with suppliers to manage the introduction of tooling and machines.
- Lead machine design reviews identifying potential issues aiming for a no-fault forward philosophy.
- Communicating with third party vendors for machine repair managing cost and lead times.
- Optimisation of manufacturing process to enhance product quality and reduce cycle time where possible.
- Support the department with both equipment & tooling improvement using both internal resource and external vendors.
- Utilising CAD to design tooling to maintain and improve the production process
- Ensure all NPD/Process Improvement projects adhere to the milestone process and facilitate both Engineering Sample Lot (ESL) and Manufacturing Sample Lot (MSL).
- Ensure all Engineering, New Product/Process development adhere to the Quality Always program and working with the facility and corporate Quality team ensure strict adherence to the Production Part Approval Process (PPAP), in line with corporate quality strategy.
- Project Management, Implementation and OTIF delivery of all engineering projects within assigned value stream/s. Delivered under Management of Change (MoC) procedure and policy.
- Identify and define feasible material and process productivity projects.
- Responsible for working closely with the Operations, Maintenance, EH&S and Quality teams to maintain quality throughout all processes.
- Utilises lean manufacturing concepts to drive process improvements, with the use of the DMAIC process.
- Fully support and comply with all ISO Quality and Environmental Systems and SFS objectives and projects.
- Regularly reviews and analyses various types of manufacturing related reports and keeps senior management informed of significant activities and problems.
- Optimise plant layout, production lines, machine operations and value stream performance by removing operational pinch points and bottlenecks.
- Identification and feasibility of Industry 4.0 projects and processes within assigned value stream such as; Automation, Data Collection & Analysis, Problem Solving and Collaborative Intelligence.
- Custodian of Engineering Change (EC) process within assigned value stream/s for product and process. Ensuring that all technical documentation is defined and implemented in line with Stanley Black and Decker standards and requirements.
- Support the TPM program by adopting and implementing the 8 pillars within each value stream.
- Support and adhere to 5S strategy outlined by the management team.
ROLE REQUIREMENTS
Education/Professional Qualifications
Minimum of level 5/6 qualification within and engineering discipline, such as; HND (Higher National Diploma), Bachelor’s Degree (BSc, BEng etc.)
3+ years manufacturing/engineering experience within a manufacturing environment.
Skills/Experience
- Excellent logic and analytical skills, with the ability to promptly define corrective actions and illicit cooperation and any required help from key stakeholders to ensure problems are swiftly communicated along with corrective actions and associated timescales.
- Six Sigma Green Belt (CSSGB) preferred
- Strong written/verbal communication skills with the ability to produce Technical Standard Operating Procedures (TSOPs) and technical reports to required standard
- Strong IT skills including Word, Excel, PowerPoint and general engineering/manufacturing software such as CAD/CAM (Autodesk Fusion, Inventor, AutoCAD, Solidwors, CREO etc.)
- Excellent Problem Solver with a good understanding of Root Cause Analysis methodologies such as DMAIC, 8D, 5-Why etc.
- Good understanding of Design for Manufacture (DFM) principles within injection moulding and ability to design and manufacture machine and assembly Jigs/Fixtures and associated tooling.
- Excellent understanding of Total Productive Maintenance (TPM) principles

- Highly motivated and the ability to work within deadlines and on multiple and cross-functional projects.
- Ability to coach and mentor junior members of the engineering team (Process Engineers)
- Must be results oriented, high energy, self-starter, with strong reporting skills
