Job purpose

BorgWarner PowerDrive Systems is currently looking for "dynamic, results driven" individual to join as a Prototype Development Engineer.

Key responsibilities

• Develop processes for existing equipment to support new programs, including tool design and machine programming.
• Document process parameters.
• Assist with writing statements of work for capital equipment.
• Debug of process equipment.
• Act as Lean Manufacturing Lead for proto build, including leading the team on implementing Lean Initiatives.
• Determine and document key process parameters and limits.
• Work with electric motor manufacturing processes.
• Use run time data to optimize and improve processes.
• Work with Quality team to improve FTQ and other associated KPIs.
• Conduct pre-production prototype and validation builds in engineering proto lab operations.
• Coordinates engineering changes, assist manufacturing in continuous process improvement and troubleshooting problems with production processes and new program launches.
• Lead and track prototype build readiness to include tooling, fixtures, components, and schedules.
• Coordinates and tracks the launch of new programs in the assigned areas.
• Develop work instructions, standardized work, process flow, and process documentation to ensure manufacturing process is being followed.
• Work with design engineering team to develop and establish a design that lends itself to high production while ensuring built in high quality during the manufacturing process.
• Participate in product and packaging reviews to evaluate process impact and provide feedback on build sequence, process time analysis, and investment requirements.
• Review new parts in the concept stage.
• Make recommendations to standardize features and improve functionality that support DFMA.
• Recommend technical design or process changes to improve efficiency, quality, or performance.
• General manufacturing floor support, including mentoring and training machine operators.
• Interact with other engineering support and maintenance to react to unscheduled equipment issues. (i.e., breakdowns) and perform necessary diagnostics and repairs.
• Work on continuous improvement programs and cost reduction projects.
• Participates in DFM activities and discussion to improve product designs and manufacturing methods that support more robust processes and improved quality.
• Assist in the development of equipment and tooling standards and sources.

What we're looking for

• BS degree in Electrical, Mechanical, or Mechatronics Engineering, or equivalent
• Minimum 5+ years Engineering experience made up of multi-year experience with industrial controls and automation design.
• Experience using statistical tools.
• Skilled in Lean Manufacturing fundamentals with proven experiences and results.
• Excellent oral and written communication skills to effectively communicate with all levels of the Organization.
• Ability to read and create comprehensive electrical, hydraulic, and pneumatic schematics using specified software (ex. AutoCAD, SolidWorks, NX).
• Good problem-solving skills.
• Works well in group settings.
• Detail-oriented and self-motivated.
