Summary

- This position is subject to recall 24/7 and the employee is required to work shifts; days off vary
- Must be in a constant state of physical readiness and must be capable of demonstrating maximum physical exertion without warning
- Incumbent is subject to medical screening to determine if any condition impacts his/her movement, agility, flexibility, strength, dexterity, coordination, or the ability to accelerate, decelerate, and change direction efficiently
- Incumbent is subject to a vision screening
- Retention in this position is contingent upon the successful completion and passing of all agency-training requirements, including the National Police Officer Selection Test (POST). POST tests knowledge of basic math, reading, writing and grammar
- Retention in this position is contingent upon the successful completion and passing of all agency-training requirements, which includes the Physical Abilities Test (PAT)
- Military and/or non-federal experience related to the work of this position may be evaluated and credited for extra annual leave accrual
Qualifications
- This position requires the incumbent to successfully complete a specialized law enforcement Uniformed Police Training Program (UPTP) course provided by the Federal Law Enforcement Training Center (FLETC). Incumbents may be required to sign a Continuing Service Agreement (CSA) upon completion of FLETC as required by agency policy. Note: Applicants may be considered for a FLETC waiver if the candidate received Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) course completion.
- The employee assigned to this position is designated as a MISSION ESSENTIAL EMPLOYEE. Mission essential employees may be required to report for, or remain at, work in dismissal or closure situations due to adverse weather conditions, natural disasters, or other emergency situations (e.g., building closure due to power outage) causing disruptions of government operations, and are required to maintain contact with their supervisor during any dismissal or closure situation unless specifically excused by their supervisor.
- This position is identified as a covered position under the PFPA Civilian Mobility Program, Regulation 1400.24, effective September 28, 2015. This position requires that the candidate must sign a mobility agreement as a condition of employment. PFPA may relocate covered positions and covered employees in permanent changes of duty station between PFPA duty locations in the National Capital Region; Raven Rock Mountain Complex (Adams County, Pennsylvania) and potentially other locations to improve mission effectiveness or enhance individual career progression
- As a police officer representing PFPA, it is essential that the employee present a professional and competent image, with a clean, neatly pressed uniform or attire. Safety and effective performance require a well-groomed and tidy appearance, proper decorum and appropriate responses.
- This position requires the incumbent to take and pass an annual PFPA medical and physical fitness examinations; to carry and qualify with PFPA service issued firearms twice a year; to wear personal protective equipment, i.e., ballistic vest, etc.; and to pass all designated PFPA certification programs, which includes training and qualifying to deal with an "active shooter."
- *Recruitment Incentive: Applicants who have graduated (1) Federal Law Enforcement Training Center, Uniformed Police Training Program (FLETC/UPTP), (2) U.S Army Military Police School (USAMPS), (3) Veterans Administration Civilian Police Officer Course, or (4) other 400-hour Federal Law Enforcement Training Accreditation (FLETA) accredited basic police academy may be eligible for a $20,000 recruitment incentive in accordance with regulatory requirements. The incentive requires a four-year service agreement; incentive will be paid as an initial lump-sum payment at the beginning of the service period. (NOTE: Eligibility is limited to "Newly appointed" Federal employees as defined by 5 CFR 575.102).

The Police Series, 0083, has an Individual Occupational Requirement (IOR).
You may qualify at the AD-05 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:
A. At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least AD-04 or GS equivalent level that demonstrates knowledge of a body of basic or commonly used laws, rules, regulations, procedures, and operating methods and involved responsibility for maintaining order and protecting life and property. Creditable specialized experience may have been gained in work on a police force, in the military, in loss prevention, or as a security officer at airports, buildings, and structures.

B. Completion of at least four years of education above the high school level leading to a bachelor's degree in police science or a comparable degree program related to police work. Such education must be obtained from an accredited college or university. (Transcripts will be used to verify education). Comparable degrees may include but are not limited to Anthropology, Community Policing, Computer Engineering, Corrections, Criminal Law, Criminal Psychology, Cybersecurity, Emergency Management, Ethics in Criminal Justice, Forensic Accounting, Forensic Science, Homeland Security, Juvenile Justice, Psychology, Political Science, Public Administration, Public Policy, Research Methods, Security and Policy Administration, Social Work, Systems Engineering, or Sociology.

C. A combination of specialized experience as described in letter A above and post high school education as described in letter B above that totals 100% of the qualification requirements for this position. (Only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours or 90 quarter hours can be credited under this response. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience).
You may qualify at the AD-06 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement: At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least AD-05 or GS equivalent level that demonstrates knowledge of a body of standardized rules, methods, procedures, and operating techniques that requires considerable training and experience to perform a range of operations in preventing or resolving offenses. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized law enforcement experience in:
- Enforcing law and order (Federal, State, County or Local), preserving peace, and protecting life and civil rights (and property); and,
- Monitoring or patrolling designated area to preserve law and order; and,
- Performing access control and search of property to admit individuals into a controlled area.
You may qualify at the AD-07 level, if you fulfill the following qualification requirement:At least one year of specialized experience equivalent to at least AD-06 or GS equivalent level , performing work that demonstrates knowledge of a body of standardized, optional, and innovative investigative procedures, techniques, and methods to detect, investigate, and resolve crimes and other incidents. Candidates for this position must clearly demonstrate in their resume that they possess specialized experience in law enforcement experience in:
- Preventing, detecting and investigating criminal acts; and,
- Gathering facts or evidence to prepare detailed reports; and,
- Responding to emergency or routine calls for service from the general public.
Experience refers to paid and unpaid experience, including volunteer work done through National Service programs (e.g., Peace Corps, AmeriCorps) and other organizations (e.g., professional; philanthropic; religious; spiritual; community, student, social). Volunteer work helps build critical competencies, knowledge, and skills and can provide valuable training and experience that translates directly to paid employment. You will receive credit for all qualifying experience, including volunteer experience.

Salary range is subject to pay increase in 2024.
