PATH in Ethiopia is currently implementing various high impact projects with the aim of saving and improving the lives of the most vulnerable and underserved women and children in the country. Currently, PATH is looking for regional level coordinator for Somali region to provide technical assistance for Strengthening measles 9-month platform and 5-dose vial introduction support project. This project aims to accelerate the measles elimination effort in Ethiopia. The project addresses the immunity gap by optimizing the introduction of the 5-dose measles vial, reducing missed vaccination opportunities, and capturing critical lessons through the 9-month touchpoint. The 9-months touchpoint will not only boost MCV1 coverage but also improve IPV2 coverage and support the introduction of other antigens, like IPV and Yellow Fever vaccine. The regional coordinator will be based at Somali RHB and will report to the Project Manager.

The regional coordinator will work as part of the regional technical support team and will provide technical assistance to improve service quality and user experience of immunization services, including bringing a strong gender lens.

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical support at subnational levels to aid in strategic planning, identifying barriers, enablers, and supervision during the measles 5-dose and other new vaccine introductions.

  • Provide technical support and ensure proper monitoring of static and outreach vaccination service provision.

  •  Facilitate IPC training for vaccinators and EPI focal persons and community dialogues on implementation at each PHCU.

  • Support the implementation of PIRI activities

  • Provide technical support to conduct an initial rapid assessment to understand the needs for the 2025 measles SIA.

  • Conduct supportive supervision, on-the-job training, headcounts, monthly updates of pregnant women and newborn registration at the health facility level, and follow-up on ANC, PNC, delivery, and other integrated activities.

  • Assist in the development of bottom-up micro plans for the of introduction of the 5-dose measles vaccine vial and during other new vaccine introduction.

  • Organize integrated review meetings at the woreda level.

  • Support to customize training materials and cascade trainings for the introduction of the 5-dose measles vaccine vial.

  • Provided technical support during the 2025 measles SIA.

  • Conduct rapid gender situation analysis in selected project woredas.

  • Conduct RCS in selected health facilities regularly.

  • Offer technical support on vaccine stock management, timely VRF submission, and vaccine distribution.

  • Provide technical support to woreda health offices and health facilities to monitor report accuracy, completeness, and timeliness monthly.

  • Support DQS at woreda and health facility levels.

  • Support the documentation of best practices and lessons learned from the 5-dose switch and its impact on MCV1 and other antigen coverage for future scale-up. 

  • Provide technical support to strengthen EPHI/PHEM and NDMC and programmatic decision-making with EPI and subnational decision-makers.

  • Participate in technical working group meeting regularly and contribute technically and support the regions and woredas per the gaps on the ground.

  • Serve as a focal person for PATH’s vaccine-related work in the regions.

  • Execute additional responsibility given by Project Manager.

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in public health Officer or BSc nursing or master’s degree in public health or related field.

  • Minimum Ten (10) years’ experience for first degree and five (5) years for master’s degree in public health programming, with experience in immunization and maternal/child health programs and new vaccine introduction.

  • Proven ability to create and maintain effective working relationships with government, partners, donors and international organizations at various levels.

  • Experience in facilitating meetings and moderating complex discussions with a variety of stakeholders (including religious and clan leaders) preferred.

  • Ability to be effective in high-pressure situations, handles multiple tasks simultaneously, and set priorities and work under minimal/remote supervision.

  • Skilled in successfully working with geographically dispersed teams and working in a multi-cultural environment.

  • Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work as part of a team, including cross-cultural teams.

  • Experience in using Microsoft offices (power point, outlook, excel and word) and statistical packages like Epi info, SPSS, STATA and other apps like ODK.

  • Excellent written and oral communication skills in English and knowing local language is mandatory.

  • Knowledge of the political, social, economic, and cultural context of regions.

  • Excellent analytical, written and oral communication skills.

  • Ability to travel to districts, estimated to be about 60%.
