Job Description

The Scrum Lead is responsible for coaching teams in the values, principles, and processes of the Scrum framework. The main responsibility of the Scrum Lead is to facilitate, and guide the development teams to ensure they follow appropriate processes. In any given situation, a Scrum Lead utilizes their important soft skills to act as a facilitator, coach, mentor, teacher, impediment remover, or change agent.

The Scrum Lead is responsible for working with teams to problem solve and eliminates obstacles and distractions that may negatively impact the team or prevent them from accomplishing goals. This is a key function that enables team members to complete their work unimpeded, on time, and at or under budget. The Scrum Lead is not directly responsible for team members, however does act as indirect supervisors as well as advisors. This role serves as the liaison between the Scrum team and external stakeholders. Much like a project manager, a Scrum Lead collaborates with other people and teams, such as the product owner and vendor development teams.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Manage each project's scope and timeline.
  • Ensure that all Scrum events take place and are positive, productive, and kept within the time-box including sprint planning, retrospectives, daily stand-ups, and backlog grooming.
  • Assume a facilitative role to support team members in self-management and cross-functionality to complete Scrum projects.
  • Facilitate internal communication and effective collaboration.
  • Work with product owners to handle backlogs and new requests.
  • Identify and remove impediments to the Scrum Team's progress.
  • Help teams implement changes effectively.
  • Guide development teams to a higher level of Scrum maturity and help ensure that our development teams are as effective at delivering business value as possible.
  • Foster a productive environment where team members 'own' the product and enjoy working on it.
  • Assist Coverys' Scrum teams to focus on creating high-value sprint that meet the Definition of Done.
  • Assist product owners to identify techniques for effective product goal definition.
  • Insure the Scrum team has a process to maintain clear and concise product backlog items.

Education, Requirements & Competencies & Values

  • Bachelor's and/or Master's degree in computer science, computer engineering, or related technical discipline required.
  • Scrum Master certification, preferred
  • 2-4 years of experience in a Scrum Master role, preferred.
  • Familiarity with software development processes.
  • Excellent knowledge of Scrum techniques and artifacts such as the Definition of Done, user stories, automated testing, and backlog refinement.
  • Excellent presentation and communication skills.
  • Problem-solving and conflict-resolution ability.
  • Outstanding organizational skills.

The base salary range for this role is $86,800 - $117,500. Individual compensation packages are based on a variety of factors that are unique to each candidate including geographic location, skill set, experience, qualifications and education.
