ABOUT THE ROLE

Uncommon Goods is on the lookout for a Senior Data Engineer who is not only passionate about crafting data pipelines but also keen on pioneering the next generation of products and data initiatives. If you're an experienced data wrangler with a penchant for optimization and innovation, we want you to be a part of our dynamic team.
ROLE RESPONSIBILITIES
Data Pipeline Guru: Develop and maintain scalable data pipelines and craft new API integrations to handle increasing data volume and complexity.
Data Maverick: Collaborate with our team to enhance data models, making data more accessible and empowering metrics-driven decision-making throughout the organization.
Data Guardian: Implement robust processes and systems to ensure data quality, ensuring that production data remains accurate and readily available for critical internal functions.
Data Detective: Dive into data analysis to tackle data-related issues and assist in resolving them effectively.
Team Player: Work closely with frontend and backend engineers, product managers, data scientists, and analysts, fostering a culture of collaboration and innovation.
Architect Extraordinaire: Define our company's data assets and orchestration jobs via Airflow while developing data integrations and frameworks for automated anomaly detection.
Tech Explorer: Evaluate and integrate open-source and vendor tools for data lineage and governance, staying at the forefront of technological advancements.
Visionary Engineer: Collaborate with all business units and engineering teams to shape a long-term data platform architecture strategy that will drive our success.
SKILLS & QUALIFICATIONS
Required:
- BS or MS degree in Computer Science or a related technical field.
- Exceptional communication skills for effective collaboration with both technical and non-technical colleagues.
- Proficiency in schema design and dimensional data modeling (experience with DBT is a plus).
- Expertise in object-oriented/object function scripting languages, especially Python (Python is required).
- Proficient in writing SQL queries (No-SQL experience is a plus).
- Experience integrating data from various sources, including APIs, flat files, and streaming data sources.
- Familiarity with version control systems like Git for code management and collaboration.
- Understanding of containerization technologies like Docker for packaging and deploying data applications and services.
- Experience with coding automated data-intensive processes and workflow management tools, such as Airflow, Azkaban, Luigi, etc.
- Familiarity with AWS & Google cloud services: EC2, EMR, RDS, Redshift, DMS, Lambda, S3, and Google’s Bigquery / Cloud Functions (AWS Solutions Architect certification is a plus).
Nice-to-Have:
- Experience with e-commerce and retail.
- Knowledge of efficiently querying Google Analytics hit-level data (experience with GA4 a plus).
- Familiarity with BI platforms such as Tableau, Power BI, or Looker (we use Tableau).
- Understanding of software development best practices.

- This position's annual base salary range is $125k - $150k. This role is eligible for our annual performance bonus program. This range represents the low and high end of the anticipated base salary range for this role. The actual base pay is dependent upon many factors, such as: experience, education, and role-based skills.
- This is a fully remote role.
